Early model 110's lost at auction.

Top one is a carbon copy of mine that's no where near as nice as either one. Top one has a super low serial # too (mine is 1071)!

1012! Holy smokes! That’s the earliest I think we’ve ever seen! Seven fan, yours at 1071 was previously the oldest known. (That I knew of anywhos!)
But OP, you said you LOST. Meaning I guess you were outbid? Well, I wonder if the new owner might venture over here & claim his spot of oldest known, living 110?

I forgot to mention the bottom one is in 243 Win. I stopped bidding when I figured out the end price after fees, sales tax, and shipping to my FFL would be $2000. The person who won the auction probably had $2200 into the pair to get them to an FFL.

it would be interesting to see how close the 243 is to being first one in production also. I have a 243 from 1959 first year of production of the 243 with a 25677 serial number.

EDIT: The First production 110’s in 1958 were chambered in 30-06 Springfield & 270 Winchester only. In 1959, 243Win & 308Win chamberings were added.
Well now, that is interesting. The first year of 110 rifle production was 1958. But the 243 Win wasn’t released until 1959. I’m guessing the other one was chambered for 308 Winchester? Do you happen to know which serial number was the 243 Win? Honestly, I’m wondering, although release year for the 110 was 1958, I’m wondering if those were Serial Number 0001+. (Which likely none of these still survive.) Then rifles with SN# 1000+ started in 1959. Maybe? Afterall, the 110 was first chambered in 243 & 308 Wing.
Interesting information to contemplate & discuss. I’m not even a collector. My only interest is my love for the Savage 110 rifle.

The top one is in 30-06 serial number 1012.
The bottom one is in 243 Win serial number 9110.

Ahh, yes.. that sounds more like it. Let me correct my previous statement. The very FIRST 110’s in 1958 were chambered in 270 Win & 30-06 Springfield only. In 1959, 243Win & 308Win were added. Which makes perfect sense with those two rifles. One was a 1958 first year and the other was likely a 1959. Thank you for clarifying the chamberings.

That guarantees serial number 1017 was made in '57, as was mine, which, per Mad Dog on SavageShooters, was then the oldest known 110 to exist in his registry. Now we know at least one, maybe 2, are older.
Serial numbers started with 1000 in 1957. Rumor had it there were several made with serial number 1000 and given to executives. For pre-66 110s you cannot ID year of manufacture by serial number. The exception to that is known serial numbers determined by the barrel stamp provide a limited range for confirmation.
Beyond that, year of production requires the barrel code. If the barrel has been replaced the year code is gone and date of manufacture cannot be obtained.
