I'm a trapper at 80 yrs old in Wyo. My savage WSM has started to seize up after bolt lift after firing each round. Bolt lifts easily but I have to bang it with my Binos to get it come rearward and eject a firing a round. Cleaned everything. lite oil and still the problem persists. Next to try is graphite powder ? Polished the chamber also. Doesn't do it on a unfired ctg. suggestions ?? Very accurate with the 12X Leo fine crosshair dot, Thanx all

early Win mfg, been OK up until recently except for the occasional dud ! Unfortunately bought up quite a bit of it from Walmart when it was $15.00 or so a box. Made a mistake on my description my AI Swift has the 12X Leo, this rifle has a compact mini 3X9 Burris fine crosshair dot but still very accurate setup, it's used mostly for one shot kills on our large winter jackrabbits I shoot for bait but lost a lg coyote and a couple of badgers when using it so now I pack both my swift and the WSM ( precise bullet placement is difficult on moving targets of opportunity) the 64 gr .22 is more forgiving

Amazing what a bit more bullet can do.

I’d be curious to try some Hornady rounds and see if it makes a difference.

A friend and I are having the same issue with the extraction of a spent round. He cleaned the chamber with Flitz on a 27 cal. mop attached to a rod and a drill. Being very careful not to over do it. Really improved his. So I'm trying the same thing. Spend a hour plus cleaning out the chamber and running patches down the barrel. We shall see. I did contact Savage and they wanted the rifle shipped to them. I' try this first.

What rifle do you have? Ether one of two issues cause this. Either a or primary extraction is faulty or the case itself is swelling enough to get stuck. Polishing the chamber is a good idea.

Savage 17 WSM Bmag. Heavy black barrel Plastic stock. Shoots great. Pretty accurate. Under a inch at 100 yds. It just sticks cases.

Ok, I kinda figured it was a B-Mag, just making certain.

My recommendation is search “lapping compound” on Amazon. There are single grit styles and even kits with several #Grit options, and pretty inexpensive. Then, get a Bore Mop slather with the compound. Use an extension rod with the mop in your drill, and turn at a nominal speed, while moving the mop front to back in the chamber. Make sure to stuff some cotton or whatever in the bore first. Don’t want the grit polish in the bore. Then thoroughly clean the chamber. I’d bet money that’ll fixer up proper.

I use the same method, but be careful. Lapping compound does remove metal. Overdone, you could oversize your chamber. Personally, I use Fitz polish. It is technically not an abrasive. I would call it a microabrasive. It polishes metal up nicely with negligible or no measurable removal of metal. I have fixed several sticky chambers with it.
