Change in Receiver Thread Size

I recently purchased a new Savage Axis II and also ordered a Williams WGRS peep sight as I plan on having an iron sight rifle. The Williams sight came with 6-48 screws, but my action is tapped for 8-40 screws. When did Savage change to the larger screw size? Obviously Williams Gunsite is not aware of this change. I’m ordering a set of 8-40 screws today.

If everyone didn’t think they needed to put a “James Webb” scope on their rifle the larger screw size wouldn’t be needed.
 
James Webb scope is a big one. It is the huge telescope launched in space on Dec. 25th 2021. It does not orbit around the Earth like the Hubble Space Telescope, it orbits the Sun 1.5 million kilometers (1 million miles) away from the Earth at what is called the second Lagrange point or L2.



Scope size is determined by what your use is. My varmint guns run variables up to 22-24X with 30 or 34mm tubes and 50-56mm objectives so they're pretty big. I'm often shooting 500 yards at dawn and dusk so I need a high magnification, large objective scope. My medium and big game guns run mostly 1-6X, 2.5-8X or 3-9X, 1" or 30mm tube scopes, I only use big scopes when they're needed.

This is my back yard with the feeder 440 yards away. Below that is the raccoon that I shot from my back porch who was eating corn from the feeder. I used my heavily modified Savage 11 in 22.250AI.

I had never heard the term before and was unsure of its origin and meaning. I have some long range rimfires and have been using Arken EP-5 FFP 34mm tubes with 56mm objective and 5-25 power. Great scopes for the money.

I’m just going out on a hunch here…, but it seems you reeeeeally like those Arken scopes😊

Any plans to grab one of their newer
7-35x56 EP5s? Wondering if they any good at that high magnification.

I’ll say this: the person I trust 100% with rifle scopes speaks very highly of Arken scopes. (For the money of course) Matt Tibor (TiborasaurusRex on YouTube), is a self proclaimed “scope schnob” and often has spoken of his love for German Glass. However, he has been testing these Arkens for quite a few years now and has been astonished at their quality. The Arken you just purchased Fjold, I believe is available for like $330. That is crazy for what it offers. Matt himself has even stated, if scopes like these at this price point had been available when he started, he likely would never have purchased the top tier scopes like his Schmidt & Bender. (His favorite.)

Obviously, none of these are as good as the highest end scopes. But the fact is that technology has advanced to a great deal compared to scope technology from 20 years ago! Some Chinese made scopes are no longer junk. And people still staying they are, are simply ignorant of fact. You can’t look through one of these and & honestly call it junk. Scopes like this, the Athlon Ares ETR, the US Optics I have, and a few of the Chinese made Vortex, offer incredible performance for under $1000. And the build quality shows.

I trust this guy. He is both thorough & honest in his reviews.
Matt did a video about it, citing how those out there who are still calling these Chinese JUNK, simply can’t handle, or admit the performance they offer.
