A piece of info for those who are not aware:

It is a Savage 110 Rifle that holds the ELR Factory Class Rifle Competition shooting record. Set by Randy Wise in 2019, and using his Savage 110BA in 338 Lapua Mag, Randy set the record by hitting the 36” target with a three shot cold bore string at 2158yds. The record, set in 2019, still holds today.

So the next time you hear a fellow shooter boast the superiority of their trusty Remington, Tikka, CZ, Bergara or any other FACTORY brand, let them know which brand carries the torch for longest distance.

Understand, I’m not saying Savage rifles are the best thing out there. This is simply an argument to the bashing & hate, Savage rifles (and users), often experience.

Also, for comparison:
The longest shot PERIOD, is 7844yds (4.4 miles), with a .416 Barrett in a custom setup. As astonishing as this is, it required many, many attempts (69th shot), a HUGE custom cartridge & equally custom rifle setup. Just guessing, I’ll bet it’s at least $25,000 or more investment! And this was not in competition. The longest distance in competition is 4344yds (2.46miles), also in Open Class, using a Wildcat 416 Hellfire cartridge. Once again, after many, many attempts. While incredible. I don’t put much interest in shots like these. For one thing, in that 7844yrd shot, the bullet was traveling through the air for 9 seconds! Obviously less for the 4244yrd shot, but still around 5 seconds flight time! So much can happen in that timespan, and with with the seemingly limitless amount of attempt, I can’t help but bring up what most would call “The Law of Averages”, but, what is in fact The Law of Large Numbers. Where given enough chances, any & everything CAN happen.

Now, COLD BORE shots are different. While it can be said luck can still play a role, the numbers bear witness. In Cold Bore competition shot is 2874yrd (1.63miles). Much, much closer to the Savage’s 2158yrd. (1.22mile) cold bore shot. Not to mention, it too was accomplished using a custom rifle, shooting Schmidt’s own Wildcat cartridge, the .416 Schmidt. Food for thought.

My 110 223 varmint and 93 17HMR are my most accurate rifles. Maybe because their bull barrels? Soon i hope to see how my Begara shoots too.

LOL! The whole world bust chops about Hi-Points!

Seriously, I made a thread in another forum speaking about them. There are videos where they attempted to blow them up. Even filling the barrel with epoxy, and even cement wouldn’t do the job. No matter what, it would just clear the barrel & be fine. They had to drive a huge bolt in the muzzle a couple inches and FINALLY, the barrel split. Still, the Hi-point would go KABOOM.

I’ve never owned one, nor planning to, but they are seriously tough pistols that WORK!

I keep saying I want to get away from Savage but they are so cheap to build and shoot incredibly well.
I also had bought a HiPoint 45acp. A friend had one as a truck gun and said it just works. He also said if you have to use it, it probably will be confiscated so your out nothing. One day on the range my son and I were shooting my M&P and the HiPoint, The HP started to hang up a little. I got thinking I cleaned my M&P many times but my HP after firing hundreds of rounds had never been cleaned. I guess it was acceptable. Lol

I traded my pistols for a CZ 457. I kept my carbines.

I still have two. But I built both of them. The 1911 I built right after the accident that disabled me. Because 1* it’s a 1911 and I’ll always own one, and 2*, God put this build in my path to bring me back. I thought my passion for Firerms was OVER after being disabled. Building it showed me what I could still do.

The other is the sub-compact, striker fire pistol I built using a P80, “80%” frame and Glock 26 type parts. That is my everyday, conceal carry pistol.

It's still preference, end of day. Wouldn't hold the record if it was for nothing.

I gotchya. I misunderstood.

That’s quite a collection of 1911s. Very nice. I’ve owned several. Only one or two at the same time though. It’s not a gun I carry, (though I have when it was the only pistol I owned). And although I used to compete in USPSA competition & Limited Ten, I no longer do. However, as I said, the 1911 in 45 is a pistol I will always own.(although I built this one for 450SMC/45Super). I started building them in 2010. It’s the firearm that taught me precision in building, as every single part comes oversized & must be machined and/or hand fit. Hours & hours with jewelers files, stones & sand paper. I actually did a whole build thread on m1911 Forum, years ago when I built it. I love building & working on these.

I only carry a 1911 when on hikes. My 10mm. For edc. I carry my Taurus spctrum .380 and Taurus pt 140 40 sw.

I too love M1911s and I have three Kimbers.
My first was a Custom with a double-width mag - 13 rounds.
My second was a Custom Shot Eclipse - got it when it first came out and all were custom shop versions until they went into full production.
My third was a LAPD SWAT Team TLE-RL with a front rail.
The second and the third have Crimson Trace grips - the Eclipse has a green laser that I can see at the range during the daylight.
The LAPD SWAT version has a red Crimson Trace and a laser light on the rail. It is my home defense pistol.

They all shoot very accurately but the Eclipse Custom Shop version is about 1/2 again as accurate.

The unique floating bolt head on the Savage certainly helps with their accuracy. No need for trueing or squaring an action to a bolt head like other actions for ultimate accuracy. Savage took care of this in that floating head. They've come a long way in quality but the accuracy has always been one of the best in the industry and still is.

My axis 223 looks cosmeticaly like a stock outta the box rifle but after bedding, trigger mod, an stiffening the stock in two places it's better than it was an it shot great then.
As for highpoints got a c9 and it's a clunky thing but it's a tough one practically indestructible.
