Here is my Axis. 25/06, Timney trigger, Boyd’s Prairie Hunter stock, kickeez pad, and an old Tasco Wirld Class 6-24 scope.

Now, I am a budget rifle guy. 1) Because I'm cheap. 2) Because I don't have a lot of money to spend (I'm retired).

That being said, Why buy a budget rifle and then swap the stock, trigger, butt pad, etc...? It seems like you would want to invest in a higher end gun to start with. I mean, cut to the chase and get what you want up front.

Please don't chew me out for asking. I am sincere with my question and I would like an answer. Educate me. I can never be too old to learn.

I save my pennies when i want a higher end rifle. Im saving up now for the 22-250 model 12. I do my own trigger work. No expensive triggers for me. Most of my rifles are 12oz to 1.5 lb triggers.

Nice. I have, or used to have, its twin brother. Mine was a lefty Axis XP 25-06 in a Nutmeg Boyd's Prairie stock. The action has since been pulled and changed to a 300BO in a Green Boyd's Prairie short action stock with a Leupold scope. The Axis XP was originally a .270 (beggars can't be choosy when your a lefty) but I quickly switched it to a 25-06.

I am waiting on the delivery of another LH Axis 2 action to put that 25-06 barrel on it and re-use the Boyd's stock.

I've recently retired and have gained access to some long range shooting area's in WV and looking forward to shooting rifles again. And I have been wondering what my options are to run a chassis on my LH Axis's, and also my LH Savage 12 FLV 26" in .223.

I also have a Savage 116 in 300WM but haven't shot it in a while.

I like Boydes stocks a lot. I put one on my Remington 30.06 recently. I been wanting to do it for some time. Finally did it.

When I bought the axis none of the shops in my area had anything in the 25/06. I am originally from the sucky state of Illinois. I took what I could get over the counter. The original plastic stock had to go. Did the trigger and pad just because I had never done it before. Scope sat in my drawer for years so it was begging for a home. I used a ruger m77 in 30/06 since 1976 but couldn’t find it in the 25/06. Bad shoulder and was looking for a little less recoil.

I don't load for my 30.06. At full power. I have cervical spine issues. That is why i run my scopes high. I load mid range loads for it.

@Morton9 Thanks for the reply. I totally understand. I have done similar things in my past. Get what you can, when you can. Then improve it as time/money allows.

For some of us, what we WANT is a Savage. Ya know? My first high power rifle was a Savage model 111 in 30-06. I fell in love with it. (I was an 18yo kid) Over the next several years, I purchased several more Savage model 10/110s. A model 116 weather warrior in 30-06 was my main hunting rifle the years I hunted. I just developed a fondness, even a loyalty for Savage 110. So when I decided to build a bench gun, the Savage 10/110 Action was the starting point. And for years I wanted to build a truly unique, one of a kind Savage.

So, it’s different for each person.
