RL-26 in the 243

I have had good results with RL26 with bullets from 95 to 105 grains. Took the 105 Hornady HPBT up to 47 grains, Accuracy was sub MOA. Velocity right at 3150 in the 22 inch barrel. This is around the max listed by Alliant. Later tried some 95 gr Berger Classic Hunter, reduced charge to 46 grains. Several 3 shot groups under 1/2 inch at 100 M. The 47 grain load seemed to be just a bit warm. All loads using Winchester brass and Federal 210 primers.

I find middle of the data loads. To be the most accurate.

Seems far too slow burning a powder for 243. I know people were saying they used RL26 in their 6.5CM loads and claiming insane velocities! (Close to 3000fps-ish) I haven’t tried it, but curious for my 260AI loads.

Check out Alliant,s website. Look at the 270 Win loads with RL 26 as well. It,s the real deal. I actually exceeded their speeds in my 270 with less powder.

I also thought that R-26 would be too slow for the 243 until I looked at the Alliant site. With the heavier bullets I would have started with R-17 or R-19. I use a lot of R-15 in my 375 H&H with 300 grain bullets.

Yeah, I’m not putting much stock into their numbers. I looked through a good bit, and they are claiming some odd findings. But, whatever. The 26 does seem to be delivering the goods on max velocity. Although it needs SO MUCH more powder. Sone loads they were running 6, 7, even 8 grains MORE for an additional 80fps or so.

I do like RL17 for my 260AI. Only thing is it is temperature sensitive, which many are wary of.
