Very easy to tell. There is a Number & Letter in an oval stamped on the Lever. What’s the Letter?

The SP in the circle behind "250-3000 Savage" is the proof mark. There should be a much smaller oval circle containing 2 digits (inspector's stamp) and a letter, the letter is the year code. Some of those oval circles can be very small and finely stamped.

Oh, no. I’m sorry Doug. Not that. The oval on the Barrel with “SP” is simply a Proofing Mark from Savage. You want to look on the Lever itself. There will be another distinct oval with a Number followed by a Letter. And it’s that Letter that tells us the production year. The Number ahead of the Letter is the Inspector ID.

Oh wow! How bout that! Your 99 was built in 1949, the first year Savage used the Letter-Year dating system. Who had previously told you it was from 1950?

What does EG stand for?

Here is Savage’s general Letter Codes. And here we see the E is for Economy, and the G is for a Hardwood Stock. However, I believe these two letters used together in addressing a Model 99EG mean Pistol Grip Stock & Solid Frame Receiver. Although, in a way, a Solid Frame Receiver, not a Takedown Receiver, can be viewed as meaning “Economy”. And a Pistol Grip Stock of that era would be “Hardwood”. So I guess either work.

Seems like it might be an old list.
I have a 10 FP and 10 FCP-K (both police - Law enforcement models with plastic stocks) - one with hidden mag and with one with detachable mag and muzzle brake. According to the list the one with the brake should be without a brake and be left handed.

My 12 LRP and the LRPV would be left handed models with heavy barrels and would be repeaters. Both are right handed with heavy barrels and the LRPV is a varmint model.

But it seems to fit my 12 FVs, both with hidden mag, plastic stocks with long heavy barrels.
