300 savage

Picked up one made in 1952 , at the last local gun show. Now need to load up some ammo and shoot it

So 300 Savage is the Cartridge designation. I believe you meant you picked up a Savage model 99, made in 1952, which is Chambered in 300 Savage. Which is very cool.

Are you positive it was made in 1952? There is a stamped oval with a stamped Number & Letter on the Barrel. What is the Letter stamped in the Oval? If you’re able to post a picture, we can tell you exactly what model 99 designation it is. Whether a 99F, 99C, 99CL, ext. If you would like obviously. Of course, unless you already know.

Good ol’ 300 Savage! Yeah, the Savage cartridges were out long before the Creedmoor! The 250 Savage & 25 Creedmoor are virtually the same thing. Only real difference is 26° shoulder for the Savage vs 30° shoulder on the Creedmoor. 4° diff. ain’t that much.

I looked up the serial number and according to what is on line the number range lists made in 1952

Sorry, there will be another. The Oval with “CF” is a just a PROOF Mark, for Chicopee Falls, MA., WHERE it was made.

Look closer all around the barrel. There will be another with a LETTER, followed by a NUMBER.
