If you are like me, it will take a couple of sessions to figure out how the new stocks need to be mounted to get the best results.
And I suspect that each of the barrels will have bullet, powder and seating depth preferences.
All of my rifles, not just Savages, have always managed to let me know what they preferred.

Thanks CF! All of that is part of the fun with a new rifle! In .308 with a 1:10 twist 168gr has always been a good starting place for me.

Agree with that. I always start my .308s with the 168s.
My two Savage .308 with 24-inch 1:10 twist barrels shoot the 168 gr SMKs very accurately.
One also likes 168 Nosler CCs and 155 TMKs.
The other one also shoots 168 TMKs even better than the SMKs and shoots 175 TMKs best. It also shoots the 195 TMKs very accurately. Seems to prefer heavier, high BC bullets.
Each have clear bullet weight and powder preferences.

Every barrel seems to provide its own surprises.

Nothing wrong with that! My son loves firearms, but hasn’t really much interest in Bolt Guns or precision yet. He mostly like pistols, and AR’s. Which was my fault as that was my main love when I taught him when he was young. Nothing like sharing a hobby with your boy.

I favor 168gr for accuracy, for hunting, I will use 165s. You should get some fine accuracy from that. Welcome.
