6Br target rifle

I acquired this action and stock several years ago the plan was to barrel it in 6BR. I is a left handed large tang single shot action with a Riflebasix 2 trigger and an H. S. Precision right hand stock that was modified to left hand. I found a new Savage take off barrel on line for very reasonable price. Just to test the waters so to speak. After assembly and all that goes with that and load development I was surprised with the results. I started with 58gr Vmax bullets because I had them on hand. Powder was H322 and necked down Remington BR brass. necks were turned just to clean up. By then a Hawk Hill barrel had been ordered. this thing shot so well the HH barrel is still in waiting.

Mine was a Model 11 243 that was purchased as a barreled action with the intention of becoming a 6BR, only I found a brand-new Model 12 223 takeoff locally for $100.00. Shot in in a league for 3 seasons and still have it today.

Any thoughts of an aftermarket stock? I've used Boyd's and Richards Microfit on my Savage.

Ive used both Boyds and Richards as well in recent times. I've also used stocks from firms no longer around. Rienhart fajin and Bishop. I've been messing with savages since late '70s.

Lots of guys rag on Savage barrels but if they shoot well, and most do, why change? Shoot the barrel until accuracy suffers then change!

I've been doing that since 2008. I have never had a Savage factory barrel that didn't shoot well, out of 8 barrels.
I even had Savage replace the barrel on my first .308 after over 6,500 rounds.
As a newbie to barrel replacements, I didn't turn to the upgrade barrel suppliers and local gunsmiths wanted about twice the price for Savage doing the job and wanted almost a year to do it.
Savage had my rifle back with a new barrel in 30 days at half the price the gunsmiths wanted.
The replacement Savage barrel actually shot better than the original, but I paid slightly more ($60) for a target barrel.
I suspect that the Savage repair shop also takes more time with fitting and adjusting than the production line.

This year was my first non-Savage barrel replacement and I liked the Shilen Select Match barrel for my 12 FV .223 so much, I bought another one for my 12 FV 6.5mm CM.
They were both close to being shot out (9,030 rounds on the .223 and over 4,600 on the 6.5mm CM).
The replacement only took 30 minutes and both have improved their rifle's accuracy, but only by about 20 to 25%.

I've been fortunate to spend a career in machining. I'm retired now and have a small machineshop at home. Being able to thread and chamber my own barrels has enabled me to have about whatever draws my curiosity. I'm easily lead down various rabbit holes. If there's any interest I might share some here.

I am not anywhere near able to even consider doing anything like that.

Do my own barrel swaps, really not hard at all. I was apprehensive with my first, afterward I laughed at how easy it was.

I did not make this knob. Previous owner did. I have made others though. Barrel nut technology has enabled the individual to change barrels easily. If I chamber my own barrels I prefer a shouldered barrel.
