Sure feel nice to be getting some feeling back in my hands and getting out on the range after some time. 100 yd entry for today is a 3-7 shot off a front rest with rear bag. Savage 110 with 26" X-Caliber Heavy SS barrel in an ORYX chassis with a March Majesta scope and OSS suppressor. Ammo is handloaded Lapua lr primed brass with Berger 115 gn fb bullets pushed with 46 gn of Varget to 2940 fps. Second target with a 2-8 just for the halibut. Whatta Hobby!

I do have a .308 Shilen 26" 1-17 that will be going on in a month or two when I get better feeling in my hands. Right now it's tough not to feel the trigger.

Question. What is “3-7” & “2-8” mean?

Good question. First number is shots hit from first dot, upper left is shot first and the target is shot left to right from there on down. Second number is the total of hits on the 1/4 dots. Depending on the competition being scored, the shot from the first usually account for higher points than any after the first miss. Using the usual 10 points for each shot until the first miss and 5 points after that, each of these targets would score a 50 but the one with the most hits from first shot would trump the other. I know confusing, but it sure is fun. This is a target I shot last Summer with one of my .223 Savages, my best with a score of 8-9 for a total point score of 85 out of a possible 100 for all hits. Apologies. No,I was kidding. Shoot! I’d count it. Even ONE THOUSANDTH touching the Dot is a HIT! I was just having a go partner.

Seriously, it does look enjoyable. Better than just punching holes for the sake of it. This type of challenge looks great for those of us mostly stuck 100yd ranges. Again, I had no clue of this & the scoring until you explained it.

I found it great practice for shooting prone with bipod. 5/2/15 I nailed the competition with a 14 in a row on the 1" 10 dot challenge started by Art Luppino on the M-14 forum shot prone with bi-pod and an M14 varient built for me by LRB arms.. Still hold the record after all these years. Photo was taken the day I set the record with my trusty M14 semi-auto in .308. Whatta Hobby!

It's cool to see what lightweight 308 can do as far as accuracy. There's often a lot of talk about longer ranges, heavier bullets, high BC, but at shorter ranges a lot of that stuff isn't even relevant, and what "works" or doesn't fits a totally different paradigm.

How's the recoil on these loads? Or, what kind of muzzle device are you using?

Is the 1:17 going to be a 30BR?

Recoil is light to moderate, not bad at all.
Nope, going to be for the .308 with same light bullets.
It's all fun and I do enjoy it a lot.

LOL! That is a fantastic photo! Ahh, ya gotta love the times when parent just gave their young children GUNS to play with! I missed that era, but I did grow up in the time before cell phones & INTERWEBS… When parents had no problem letting their 6yo’s play far from home, without any contact of their whereabouts for many hours at a time. A time when children played in playgrounds of rusty, jagged metal rides of death, and hard CEMENT ground! Not these playgrounds we have now, all foam padded & bubble wrapped, with a padded ground! LOL!
