Good eye. That threw me when I first spotted the rifle too. Turns out, Savage used a heavy unfluted barrel in these LRPV rifles some years back before switching to the current fluted version. The barrel on this 2016 rifle is ALLOT heavier (and more accurate) than the one on my 12 BVSS.That doesn't look like the original 26-in fluted barrel I'd expect to see, but LRPV's are great.
Yes, that's pretty much where I've settled for my target scopes after years of experimenting. I've never had a bad one and they tend to have really good glass for the $. I keep a smattering of the from the Argos line on up to the Cronus but these ARES ETR 4.5-30x56 are particular favorites.I see you like Athlon scopes. I do too.
No, this is a 26" barrel as are the newer ones. It's just thicker and unfluted. H&S mini chassis stock with 3 action screws. Right Bolt-Left Port. The caliber is .223 and the barrel is a 1:7 twist. It is realy a joy to shoot in a rifle of this size and weight. At 68, my body is done getting beat up by the bigger calibers.I wasn't aware that the older ones had a shorter barrel. What caliber is it?
Does it have the HS Precision stock like the current ones?

I have to say. The RBLP thing is spoiling me to the point of making the rest of my bolt action fleet, obsolete?Am on the lookout for an RBLP so I don't have to reach over to load/extract.
Oh wow! Small world! Awesome set up btw, and I'm sure worth 2 hrs time spent.Small world. That is MY rifle as shown above. I actually purchased it last September from Farmland off Gunbroker. Even had the rings picutred with it.

Seems there were several configs of the LRPV in it's early days. FWIW, There is an exact copy of mine on gunbroker right now. I'd post the lin but am not sure if it's allowed. The text on the Bud site says it has a left side ejection port.
The picture from Buds probably mistakenly used a picture of an LRP.
The LRP has the same HS Precision Stock but with right side ejection and a flush mounted magazine.
Funny, off topic thing ... My first deer rifle was a Remington 788 that I bought in 1975. It has a left bolt and right port. I always though that it was the handiest rifle to shoot off the bench.I never much thought of the Left Port guns. In my younger adult years, they just didn’t look right to me. And now it’s moot regardless. I couldn’t use one very effective, even if wanted to. (No Left Arm/hand to load with!). Soooo, I’ll stick with RBRP.
Oh, and for posterity to newer members who may read this:
RBLP stands for Right Bolt Left Port Action.
LRPV stands for Long Range Precision Varmint.
BVSS meant it used a Laminate Stock, & Varmint profile, Stainless Steel Barrel. (It wasn’t a “First Letter of the Word” Acronym, as the others.)

I still have it in my safe.
