Concerns about maintaining accuracy when aging.

I have to admit that I have migrated to longer bull barrels and higher power scopes over the years and that, along with recently getting two new Shilen Select Match barrels, probably has a lot to do with my improvements. Just getting the two new barrels that were incredibly accurate actually changed my aiming precision because I could see when my minor aiming errors caused groups to open up.
I couldn't blame my errors on the barrels anymore.
I just wasn't aiming carefully enough years ago to shoot as accurately as I should have.

Even my old factory barrel rifles now shoot slightly better than they used to, just because I now am aiming more precisely.
Who knew that one has to be that precise in aiming to shoot accurately.

I had cataract surgery about five years ago and opted for distance vision as well. What came as a surprise was the restoration of brighter colors. I had no idea that the human eye lens gets kind of faded and yellow over the years -- kind of like yellowed but once clear plastic.

Got my first pair of glasses in 6th grade and had them until my wife made an appt for me at an off base clinic for contacts when we were stationed at Yokota AB Japan in 1982. Didn't know what I had been missing until then, having cataract surgery was a similar experience. Was the only surgery I'd had until right shoulder rotator cuff repair 7mos ago.

I am 87 and just bought a rifle to shoot 22rf BR. I have had cataract surgery and laser touch ups. But, my right eye is getting fuzzy, drops help. Quit trap because the gun got too heavy and I got tired. Skeet was the same and I was having trouble finding the 2nd bird on 2,3,4. Rifle shooting is bench rest only. Trigger finger is bent from arthritics and accra-triggers often lock on the safety. Still run the zero turn but am very careful getting on and off. Same with the farm tractors. Going to do 4 food plots this year. Got a deer with my crossbow and one with the rifle last year. Still have 2 riles I haven't gotten deer with and have them ready for this year. Contemplating having the WATCHMAN implanted. St Sandra, my long suffering wife of 64 years, is the same age and we have quit traveling. Still make the 30-mile trip to buy groceries every week and I drive to the numerous doctor appointments. Son and DIL are our neighbors and they and our Airedale Jim, look after us, What a blessing! I am a young 87 and very lucky! Some of my friends didn't even get old.

Hey Bill… So, you’re a young 87, while I’m a very OLD 47!
(48 in a few days.) I can’t even drive now! So kudos to you sir!

Good to hear from you Dave. We are so lucky to have a son and DIL (they are about to retire) as neighbors. Had a little trouble with congestive heart failure but they changed my meds and I am off and running, well walking. When the ER folks started asking about living wills, I got a little nervous! Need to see the orthopod and get a knee drained and a shot of cortisone. I still can't get Savage accu-triggers adjusted/altered so I am happy with them. Either they drop to the safety blade or are 3 #. My crooked fingers don't help. Have a good friend who holds the Schuetzen BR 200 yard record. Amateur gunsmith and builds his rifles, mostly on Miller actions. He keeps me spending money! We are into 22rf BR, I've got a Martini Mark IV coming. It's about like shooting Schuetzen lead bullets. My Walmart special doesn't cut it!

You to Bill! Ya know, I’m not sure why I’m just now noticing it was you. You’ve posted before, so I’m not sure why I haven’t noticed your same handle from Savage Shooters. I read every post in every thread! But thinking about it, I guess I usually don’t look at the responder’s names, unless I’m replying to THAT specific person.
