I’ve been without a dog for over a year now and I’ve really missed it. We had two great dogs for many years, then the older one had to be put down. So we just had the one for another several years. Until sadly, she had to be put down just last year. I knew it was looming, because in 2024, she had Cancer in her left front leg. So she had surgery to have it amputated. She lived another 1yr, 3mos. after, and I was greatful. But the Cancer came back as well as other problems. She was sick & hurtin’. So we had the service done where they come to your house and put them down. She left this world comfortable & happy with the 4 of us, her family, HER people, around her, letting her & reaffirming how much we loved & cared for her. And she went to sleep knowing she was loved.

Anyway, the year since has for lack of better words, REALLY F’ing SUCKED! My wife has ignored me the entire year. No happy birthday, no happy anniversary. No acknowledgment of Father’s Day.. nothing. Spoke to me only when she had to. She told me then she didn’t want to be married anymore. Fast forward to now and she’s preparing to abandon me. Understand, I love my wife. More than anyone on this earth. So, this is NOT a mutual course of action. But, nothing I can do, so I’m trusting The Lord with my sorrow. To say I feel like a modern day JOB, from Scripture, is an understatement! (It would make sense if you knew my history.)

So here I am about to be completely alone for the first time since 1998. But I finally said, I’m getting another dog… NOW! Immediately brings some happiness into a crummy situation. I love dogs so much. (I’m sure many here are the same & I’m not alone with that. LOL!😂)

He’s a bit older than I wanted. He’s 6yo. But I fell in love with his online picture. And after meeting him, I was sold. He’s such a sweetheart! Just a gentle, loving, good natured pooch. All he wants is affection from ANY human! He’s a complete HAM, and such a people dog. Not to mention one handsome dude!

Here’s my new buddy, Dane. This first one was his Internet Photo. I just thought he looked so handsome!

And here are a few I took.

Good on you for adopting a senior dog! I adopted a 7yo Pit last year after being dogless a few years. With my work schedule there was no way I could start over again with a pup. A senior dog was just the ticket.....for both him and me. I retire tomorrow. We both love to be on the deck on nice nights....can't wait to be out there with tikis going, a bourbon in one hand, nice cigar in the other, and the dog at my feet......he keeps the bears away...;)

He's beautiful. My beagle is expecting puppy's any day now. Were keeping one. And re-homing the rest.
Awesome! And thanks! Yeah, I think so with him. His greyish-brown hint of brindle. And his eyes are Marbled! Not bad for an SPCA mutt! 😊

All kidding aside, I genuinely wish I could BOTTLE UP the happiness a pet dog instantly brings into one’s life! Truly amazing. And I’m so thankful to my Father Above for making Dane available to me. I’ve only had him since yesterday, and he’s already I’m nuts for this doggie.

Very cool! Yeah, originally I really wanted between 1-2yo. But, as I said, his picture did me before I knew how old he was. And then seeing his personality, his calmness and love for people, it was easy seeing past his age. And quite frankly, he doesn’t look or act like a senior dog. They aren’t always spot on by the age at SPCA. He very well could be 4. But regardless. I’m not worried because he’s my dude now!😊

Handsome boy!😁

Don’t know what breeds my new boy is. He’s mutt’s. But that’s all I get mostly. I won’t buy a pure bread from an any pet store or breeder. Only through animal adoption agencies. But my Dane is exactly the kind of dog I like. Medium size. 45lbs.-60lbs.+. Dane is 47lbs. And super trim! So I expect his weight to go up a bit, being a home dog. I imagine he has some type of terrier, maybe Lab, Shepard. Could even be some Beagle. Who knows. But his Grey/Brown/Brindle coat, pointed floppy ears & marble eyes won me over immediately.😊

It’s incredible, this past week is the first I’ve had some happiness in over a year! He’s darn near been a “lifesaver”.

Oh hello Dane. Handsome young fellow. Good that you took him in. It sucks to lose a dog especially when you raised them from a young puppy and seen them grow like your own child. Sorry to hear about the situation with your wife but having a dog is good to keep you company and occupied. I lost one when I was very young and one a few years ago. I still mourn for them. I'm sure he'll give you joy during this difficult times.

Thanks Allen. Yes, unfortunately losing pet K9’s is simply part of the package. We’ve lost a few. When my children were younger we had to have our Australian Cattle Dog. It was very hard on my daughter. But I told here we can’t measure a dogs life based on the length of time they are with us, because they have such a shorter life span. We must measure their life based on the care we provided that animal throughout its life & the sheer love & happiness they brought us. I stand by that today.

Thing is, I’m just a through & through a dog person. I will, for the rest of my time here on Earth, have a dog.
