Model 110 new look

Thoughts on this new era of the classic rifle? I saw these photos on my Facebook feed and thought it's neat. Anyway, the 110 is seven decades old now. I guess it's about time to welcome this era.

To me, it only matters if it improves accuracy.
I don't have one, so I have no way of giving an opinion.
Looks don't matter to me, but it is hard to beat a 416R Stainless Steel bull barrel when you are focusing on accuracy.

I like that new Hooded Action. I want a just an Action to build from. From the TrailHunter. I should have picked one up already. Academy Sports had the TrailHunter on sale online for like $430, I think it was.

Very nice rifle. I would only change 2 items.

1. Maybe you already did, I couldn't tell form the photo, but the bolt handle. The photo below shows an extended bolt handle with a Big Bertha bold knob compared to a factory bolt handle.

2. The muzzle brake. On a new build I'm working on I've added a Preece Precision Stinger Muzzle Brake. He has a 3 port, 4 port & 5 port brakes. No blast back towards the shooter.

I prefer a beautiful Lumley Titanium Bolt handle, and While I machine my Own Titanium Bolt Knobs, any 5/16”-24 threaded knob will do.

I'm more of a traditionalist with my taste in looks of my rifles. I also like wood over synthetic with the exception of the Hogue stock on the Trail Hunter and Trail Hunter Light.
Both look like the trigger guards aren't made of metal but some sort of plastic. The muzzle brakes are interesting with the notches on the muzzle end.

I’ll say this, I love the Action. It’s now like the Model 12 Actions have been all along! The Hooded Action is stiffer & quite frankly, it just looks better!

However, Savage, in their infinite wisdom, have still not corrected the main issues with the Action. The Trigger problem. Still using that same STAMPED Steel Sear, and the Bolt Lift issue! Oh, but they did give us a bolt head with redesigned Extractor Claw DUAL Ejectors now, so YAY! NOT! Who cares! For $30, both Lumley & Kinney’s offer a head rebuild kit with larger BB for under the Extractor, an enhanced Extractor & new improved Ejector. Savage Ejection has not been a problem for quite some time. But anyway. I’ll continue just buying used, or buying bare Actions for $400.

Has anyone heard if the new bolt head with the improved extractor and dual ejectors is interchangeable with the older bolts?

It appears to be the same bolt head. They just added an Ejector. Which makes sense not to change anything.

I've never had an extraction issue with Savage actions so don't understand the point. The only ejection issue I experienced was from not working the bolt hard or fast enough. Mostly a bench shooter these days so I remove the ejector to not sling match prepped brass on the concrete below the bench.

Savages have Extraction/Ejection issues from time to time. However, Savage enthusiasts have figured out & created a fix for every problem. Both inexpensive, & permanent fixes. An Enhanced Bolt Head parts kit from Lumley or Kinneys will fix those issues. So no, there is no point to having DUAL Ejectors. LOL!

I bought my first Savage because it was one of the few left-handed guns that I could afford. They were only available in 270, 30.06, 308 and 243 at that time.

You must have purchased your 110 in 1959. The 110 was only one of three rifles with a Left Handed option (besides some Euro custom rifles), which also included the Remington Nylon 66 & the Weatherby Mark 5. And that was the only year it was chambered in only 4 cartridges. By early 1960, they offered the 300 WM & 300 Savage.

Pretty cool you bought one way back then!

Those were the only options available to me at that time in 1975. The Remington 700 BDL was also available but out of my price range. I forgot about the Remington 788 which I also bought in 308 Win, it was also available in 6mm Rem.
