Never really cared for the Winchester or Marlin lever guns, but the Savage 1899/99 always felt "just right."
Had 4 at one point....

99E in .243. Sold this one to my buddy in Hawaii so it could actually do some hunting. 😊

An absolutely immaculate .308 99F I stumbled across a couple months ago.

Also had a .30-30 Takedown during Covid, but couldn't find a lick of ammo for it at the time. Sold it before I could shoot it....😢

Seeing the Savage 99's in the catalog as a kid, back in the '80's, I always was curious about them. Having said that, I sort of became a Marlin guy, and not only because they were inexpensive. Anyway, a friend of mine sold me his 99F in .308... not a safe queen, by any means, but a solid shooter. First time I took it to the range I knew I was in love... got back home, and put the Marlin 336 up for sale.

I put a Williams peep on mine, and used it to shoot steel pipe on occasion...

This was up in WY some years ago... I think I was shooting the 500yd or 600yd steel at that point... note the Williams jacked all the way out...

I liked the 99F so much, another friend sold me his pre-war 99? .30-30 takedown... I say 99? because we really don't know what version it was. It had been reblued... although you couldn't tell at first glance... and we think the wood had been replaced. The checkering wasn't correct on the buttstock, and the forearm was a crazy beavertail shotgun profile. At the end of the day, it was not the rifle the 99F was, at least to me, and I sent it down the road 2 years ago. This was probably it's last range session with me, after I got the bore sorted out; this rifle required .310" cast bullets to keep them on paper, .309" produced a shotgun pattern.

99F on L, 99 takedown on R...
