Hello - happy to have found this forum, I love my savage rifles. I currently have 5 all with aftermarket barrels and stocks. My line up is .223, 22cm (x2), 6cm and 280ai. All are in pure precision altitude stocks except the 22cm I just put together it has a B&C M40. Pic below from yesterday shooting the first shots through a new 26" shilen 22cm barrel. with 88gr eldm's.

Looks like you loaded those 88 gr ELD-Ms a lot shorter than mine.
Must have a pretty short chamber in the new Shilen or haven't started to hunt for the lands in your loads.
My 26-inch Shilen .223 has a VLD chamber and my 88 gr ELD-Ms are way out there with OALs of 2.647.

I was at 2.654 OAL, 2.095 BTO which put me at .010 off the lands.

Mine was 0.012. Your cartridge box might be a bit deeper than mine.
From the OAL, it looks like your chamber is also pretty deep.
Lately, I have to be careful to monitor the bullet body that is in the neck.
I've gotten as small as 0.025 of body in the neck with some bullets trying to keep the jump short.
Spoiler alert: 0.025 (11% of caliber) is too little bullet body to maintain consistent neck tension in brass that has multiple reloads. Groups sizes grew quite a bit.
My data indicates that 0.050 (22.3% of caliber) bullet body in the neck seems to be able to maintain neck tension and not impact accuracy.
