I’ll get this started. This is another rifle near & dear to me. As much as a part of my firearms hobby as my Savage rifles have been, are my AR15s. Over the years I have owned quite a few; and built (assembled), 10x that amount! I’ve never been big on the “fan club” cartridges that keep coming out. Not that there’s anything wrong with having those. I just prefer my ARs in 223/5.56. Or, as I now use, the 223 Wylde chambered barrels. (Better precision than a 5.56 chamber, while being much more forgiving than a .223 chamber.) Truth be told, I’ve never purchased a single factory AR. Not one! Every one, over the last 20+ years of building firearms, I built myself. I prefer choosing each part to use. And since roughly 2017, I’ve only used 7075 80% Billet Lowers. Finish machine them for my personal use.

Here is my latest piece I built a few years ago. Although I like using 7075 Billet Lowers, I prefer the standard MilSpec, forged Upper. Along with that a Ballistic Advantage 16” SS barrel with1-8 twist. It’s also been Black-Nitride treated. From there, it’s a shopping cart of custom parts.



The best thing is this AR is MINE! I don’t just mean the obvious ownership. I mean, I’m the producer of every AR I build. Because I machine 80% Lowers, and assembled using a hodgepodge of custom parts, makes ME the producer. I like that.

Les Baer Super Varmint .223 1:8 twist 18-in 416R SS Bull barrel with Mag-Pull adjustable stock that replaced the A2 stock that was too short for me.
The targets are the factory test targets with this rifle - 5 round groups of Federal Gold Medal Match factory 77 grain SMK ammo using fixtures.
The rifle was guaranteed to shoot under 0.5 inches at 100 yards with factory ammo. I guess they proved that.
I could never match the accuracy on the bench compared to a fixture.
My best 50 loads averaged 0.284 primarily with 69 gr SMKs and TMKs and 1 load of Nosler CCs, and 77 gr SMKs and TMKs with a few Nosler CCs and Bergers thrown in, but with about 4 loads of 52 gr Hornady and 52 and 53 gr SMKs just to see how the lighter bullets would do.
The Les Baer really liked N133 with the light bullets.

.284 Now that's some great shootin' from a gas gun!
I run a Wilson Match barrel on one of my ARs and its best is only .332.

Still manages to hold a half inch MOA out to 200 yards.

It's interesting to note the jagged holes on the 100 Yd target and then how clean (sharp) the edges are on the 200 Yd target. Guessing it takes it a second to stabilize that bullet.

Could also be that the slight drop in Kinetic Energy and velocity doesn't tend to tear the paper at 200 yards.
