I recently decided to replace the factory stock on my Savage Apex 110 Hunter XP after noticing a molding issue that caused the magazine to fit poorly. The original stock required a frustrating amount of effort to get the magazine seated and locked, and it was clear the fit wasn’t quite right. To address the problem, I opted to upgrade to a Hogue OverMold stock.
I purchased the Hogue OverMold stock (model 11101) along with the bottom metal plate (model 041‑109400) from EABCO. Once both parts arrived, the installation process was straightforward. The bottom metal fit snugly into the Hogue stock, and after confirming proper alignment, I dropped the action into the new stock and torqued both the front and rear action screws to 40 inch‑pounds, which is Savage’s recommended specification.
The results were immediately noticeable. The magazine now seats perfectly with no resistance, and the action cycles rounds much more smoothly than it ever did with the original stock. The upgrade not only solved the magazine fitment issue but also improved the overall feel and function of the rifle.
For anyone experiencing similar problems with the factory stock on a Savage 110, the Hogue OverMold has proven to be a solid, worthwhile replacement.
