JB weld bedding.

Im thinking about bedding my axis .223 wood stock. Do you put a very thin layer of JB on it? I never done this before.

One important tip I say, even the videos go over it to Make certain to TAPE off and/or use Wax, Grease, etc., for anything you DON’T want epoxy on. 2-part epoxy is NO JOKE!

Since you haven't bedded an action before, check out YouTube. There's some good videos and not so good videos showing how to do it. Fairly simple process.

This is an excerpt from a post I submitted on stock bedding on the old original “Savage Shooters” Forum. An improvement on beating on the barrel with a mallet to release the action from the stock.
"I used automotive paste wax as the release agent. Two applications is enough, but the first coat needs to cure for about an hour before the second is applied, then lightly buff.
I slid nylon reinforcing strapping between the stock and barrel, placed my 'Smack' Jig over the barrel (the side rails are supported by the stock, the 'Smack' Zone cross member sits ~ 3/8” above the top of the barrel), suspended the whole conglomeration by the strapping, then smacked the 'Smack' Zone with about an 18” piece of 2X4 - - the stock pops off quite easily! See pic . ." .

I took apart the axis. It's pillar bedded and the recoil lug is expoxy'd in. So ill let it go. I decided to do my Boyeds 770 stock instead.

My pleasure. I’m always happy to do that. There really is SO MUCH good information on YouTube. The problem is sorting through the garbage! I have a knack for doing just that. I’m able to delivery quickly locate good, knowledgeable videos. And I have an eidetic memory, so I’m able to keep track of them. (Even with the brain damage I’ve suffered. LOL!)

No kidding!! And also look to see that there are not any mechanical locks that will be generated. Play Dough is cheap and is your friend.

You may wish to take some Play Do and put a thin layer in the stock. Put the action back in and torque the action screw to spec. You will see play do ooze out of the stock. Take the action back out and look for where the play do is so thin you can hardly see it. This is most likely where the receiver is bottoming out on the wood stock.

I then take a dremmel and grind down the wood in that area.

Now use lot's of wax on all the steel that you don't want the epoxy to stick to.

Wait until the epoxy is dry and when it comes time to remove the action you will feel the pucker power in your butt and big sigh of relieve when it breaks loose.

I have done 4 of them and every time it is a question in your mind, WILL IT COME OUT.
