I have owned a Savage Axis 30.06 for 8 or 9 years. The thing kicks like no other 30.06 that I own. I recently bought a Boyds Stock and when I put it with the trigger, barrel, etc, the Bolt release won't function properly. Has anyone else experienced something similar? When I put the gun back together with the original stock, it still will not work properly. I have swapped stocks on numerous rifles and have never had this issue.

I put a Boyds on my Remington 770 30.06. Where the mag release goes broke. I use it as a single feed now.

Can you describe what it is/isn't doing?

Trigger actuates but bolt release doesn't depress? Doesn't release bolt? Something else?

The bolt doest stay in. I have to manually pull it up after I pull the trigger. After review, the spring must have come off and I cannot locate it. I ordered one online last night.

What spring?? What did you have apart?

Not sure what you mean by this:
“The Bolt doesn’t stay in. I have to manually pull it up after I pull the trigger.”

There is NO spring which can simply come off. Things have to be taken apart in order to lose springs.

What spring did you order? Were you sure of it, or simply guessing and ordered based on your guess? Just trying to get more info as your post is incredibly vague.

This one. It is gone

Ahhh, gotchya. I apologize. I wasn’t thinking “Axis”. But yeah, that spring gone, it makes sense. Don’t know why Savage in all their wisdom, designed it that way. Instead of how the 110 Bolt Release/Sear Spring is. But yeah, like CoalCracker is pointing out, that’s an easy spring to duplicate.

I am assuming it flew off when I pulled the stock off of the barrel. I just didn't see it. And man was I confused.

Yeah, probably. Again, why I said I don’t understand the designer’s thinking on that one. But, ah well.
