110 Elite Precission Trigger

Hey all, I just snagged a used110 Elite Precision and would like to upgrade the trigger to be the same as on my mod 12 LRPV. The 12 has the red/match trigger while the Elite (for some odd reason) seems to only have the standard accutrigger. I remember discussions in the old Savage forum where folks were saying that teh red triggers/parts could not be purchased from Savage though. Has that changed? If so, is these another way to get the factory accutrigger into the 1# range for bench/prone shooting?

The target accu-trigger parts can be purchased from Gun Shack, but are not fitted as a unit.

Savage individually massages each target trigger to achieve the 6oz pull upon installation.

Yes, go to Gun Shack. They started selling the Target Triggers, thanks to yours truly! I approached & worked with Lance & Noemi on all the correct part numbers and they agreed to start to selling.

It’s exactly what I use.
Before they did, getting ahold of the Red Target trigger was like Hens Teeth!

One thing to note: They won’t deliver 6oz pull as is. Takes some proper massaging to get to near that level. I’ll be honest, 6oz is too light anyway. About a pound or so is perfect!

Actually, I give Lance & Noemi the primary credit. Yes, it was my idea because I wanted one. LOL! And I went through the part numbers with them to make it easier for ordering from Savage for them. However, it took Them, with their fondness of Savage rifles and their catering to DIY’rs like me. Lance is a great guy! We had some great conversations, he & I. Above all, their Honesty, Integrity & Character is something of note! And my respect for him, Noemi & their Gun Shack is the utmost high. Awesome, Awesome people looking out for DIY’rs like many of us here.

Well, 1lb. is already really light. And when a trigger starts getting below that, and then into the single digits, it gets SCARY conditions for an Accidental Discharge. Even in the professional world, the vast majority of Professional Shooters in Accuracy driven shooting competitions, will set their triggers between 1-2lbs. Very few go lighter. Except in more Consistency based competitions. Those shooting for smallest group size. Or shooting tiny, targets, like a match head! LOL! These are guns in random rests and whatnot, where the shooter has very little to do with holding & supporting the rifle. But in any competition where the shooter is engaging multiple targets, at different distances & even different positions, using bipods usually, a 6oz trigger is not very popular. And competitions where some shooters do have these single digits Ounce weight triggers, you see the shooter before hand, with the Bolt OUT of the rifle, usually in a pouch. They don’t insert the bolt until completely ready to shoot. And they close the bolt very slowly. Triggers this light can follow the bolt quite easily. I know we’ll hear people talking about their triggers at 1/2 an OUNCE pull weight, that they use for hunting, and it has never had an Accidental Discharge, even when banging the stock on the ground & BLAH, BLAH, BLAH. Riiiiight! Unfortunately, this is the Inter-Webs. And people tell stories.

For me, 1-1.5lbs is perfect. Even 2lbs is still very good, as long the other attributes of a proper trigger are present. Being little to no creep, smooth feel, glass like break and ZERO overtravel. (Overtravel is what makes your trigger feel mushy.) I shoot for enjoyment only. No competition. And I use a Bipod typically. (Actually looking at a Tripod in the future.) I’ve always supported my rifle, myself. So a single digit ounce trigger would simply be ASKING for trouble. Of course though, I do use an Accutrigger. So a situation involving an accidental discharge is 100% impossible. The Accutrigger Wild just do its thing in the event of a hammer follow. (Many many, MANY Savage owners have experienced this, of course!) Still, it’s just a good habit to get into.
