Axis in .308 Win.

I have an Axis without the Accu-Trigger. I found the trigger to be sloppy and too heavy of a pull. I bought an Mcarbo trigger kit for it and all the slop is gone and the trigger pull is down to 1-1/2 lbs. The bolt was also quite hard to lift. I bought a Desh bolt lift kit for it and now it lifts easily and smoothly. I recommend both of these products and they won't cost you a lot of money either.

You will love shooting it with the lighter trigger. I have my Axis at 11 oz average pull out out of 5 pulls. No bolt mods. I don't mind the lift.

I taught myself trigger tech over 2.5 decades ago. And did a trigger job on every firearm I’ve ever owned. Polishing, changing contact angles, limiting take-up, release (break) & over-travel. There is something just so fulfilling in a truly good trigger. I love messing triggers. I love the tech & talking about them. The tricks shooters come up with to improve their function and how these tricks get passed on.

The biggest outcome i had on trigger pull. Was on my 1891 Argentine Mauser. It was a bear to close the bolt. I changed the firing pin spring out. With a 1911 recoil spring. It went from an 7 lbs pull down to an 12oz pull. And easy to cock now. So i then i changed the spring on my Mosin Nagant. It's now at 15oz.

I have 7 different Savages, all with Accu-triggers.
I actually like them and appreciate their safety blade, especially when carrying them while hunting.
I've never had any issues with any of the triggers and I have put over 38,000 rounds downrange with them.
4 have triggers set at 2 lbs, 2 at 1 lb. 9 oz, and one at 1 lb 2oz.
I admit that they when wear a bit (5,000 or more rounds) and get too close to the lightest operating limits they tend to be sensitive to side pressure and lock up, but I consider that a normal, long term maintenance issue and retightening to above the slightly above the limit is simple and easy.
Two of the 7 triggers have over 11,000 rounds through each of them and are still delivering accuracy.
My .223 action, with its new Shilen barrel has averaged under 0.217 for 520 groups after shooting over 1,530 groups to an average of 0.271 with the factory barrel.

I just don't see any reason to change any of them.

Anyone who knows me, knows my feelings about the Accutrigger. I’ve been fond of it since it was released. Ït’s 100% slam-fire proof, and responds well to modification. A bit of burr removal & surface prep/polish. Some spring replacement, & side shimming. All together turns the Accutrigger into a formidable trigger. And ever since I convinced Gunshack to start selling Sears & the Red Blade-Target Accutrigger, parts are no longer reserved only for the select few with an FFL. It can be set up so well, that any other trigger would not offer any precision benefit to affect accuracy.

I do know many simply don’t like the safety blade. I for one, absolutely LOVE it! It reminds me of a 2-Stage trigger, in feel. Depressing the safety blade acts like a “stop point” to rest one’s finger. Then with slightly more pressure, it falls away, breaking like a fresh ice cycle over a handrail. (That’s what it’s always reminded me of when I think about “Trigger Break”)
