Bolt problem with .22 Mk2. Who can help?

[Four Miles]

One of our MK2 rifles developed a problem today. The bolt is not running forward all the way when closed. This happened while one of the kids was shooting it.

I removed the bolt from the rifle but can't figure out what is wrong. I tried the usual trick of pulling back to reset the hammer spring but that didn't work.

I inserted a bolt from another Mk2 and the gun works fine, so it is the bolt and not the rifle at fault.

Anyone have an idea of what is wrong and how to fix it? Thanks.

The Bolt is De-cocked. You need to cock it manually. Compare it to one of the other bolts and you see.

Here is a Mk2 Bolt showing the Cocking Pin in the “Cocked” ready to fire position. If the Cocking Pin were down at the bottom of the ramp, it’s now De-cocked. The firing pin tip will be extended.

Thanks. The bolt will now insert but won't turn down (lock up) the last 1/8 inch. The gun is clean. Any ideas?

I'm sure you checked for a clear chamber/barrel when you removed the bolt. But is there a bent case stuck that didn't extract?

No case in chamber. We are baffled here. We've had Mk2 rifles since before Covid. This has never happened before.

I would suggest disassembling the bolt, inspect/clean and reassembling. Hopefully whatever the issue is will be resolved during reassembly.

Yeah, it’s gonna be something small you’re overlooking. Was the Bolt actually DE-cocked? How did you cock it manually? Is it “locked” in the Action like it should be now? I mean, do you still need to press the Bolt Release to remove the bolt? Or does it slide right out of the Action?

XUSNORDIE’s idea is worthwhile. I would try removing the Action from the stock, dock/re-cock the bolt and try inserting into battery again like this. Also check the bolt release. (Although that shouldn’t matter.
