I can’t believe what does to the two body armors! I mean the Hard plate Armor is SNAPPED like a saltine-cracker & the ballistic dummy body is literally BROKEN to pieces! And the soft armor, after STOPPING a 500gr. SW500 Magnum slug, is then pushed/pulled THROUGH the ballistic dummy body! Absolutely insane.
So obviously this round is short range. But close up energy is astonishing! Just for comparison, a 50 BMG packs an incredible 13,000Ft.Lbs Muzzle Energy. This modern Nitro Load 4-Bore, delivers an unbelievable 30,000+ Ft.Lbs. of Muzzle Energy. Even the standard loading with Black-Powder is still capable of nearly 10,000Ft.Lbs. ME.
And here is a picture next to the loved (and venerable & quite POTENT 375 H&H), making it look like nothing. Oh wait… “nothing”, would be the 22 Hornet also there, comparatively.
I used to live near Butch Searcy, "Searcy Firearms " who made double rifles for hunting in Africa. I got to play with a number of big bores that he made, including a 4-bore. He gave me a brass 4-bore case. I shot a few of his guns, including the 500 Nitro Express that he made for Tom Sellek, but turned down the opportunity to shoot the 4-bore.
Here's a picture of the 4-bore case next to a 50 BMG case and a loaded 375 H&H round
Here's a photo of the 4-bore while it was 'in the white" before bluing it. He regulated the barrels then did the bluing.
Oh yeah, it’s a 1” diameter. Just seeing the rifle, one might pass it off for some kind of Shotgun. Like an 10ga or something. But then you see the cartridge, and it looks like a piece of ARTILLERY for a CANNON! Which, basically, it is.
Watched his video where he goes after a T-Rex skull mockup with a variety of rifles, kids loved it. If you watch some of his older videos, he's definitely been playing around with just how silly/ridiculous/etc his "character" is on screen to try and keep retention high. It's been the same with most of the guntubers, like Garand Thumb, where the schtick kinda ruins the content.
RIP Paul Harrel.
As to the 4-bore, that thing is insane. Couldn't pay me to shoot it, though I'd certainly pay for one round to have on the shelf for the collection aspect of it.
Yeah, I wouldn’t shoot it. No point. I don’t get excited about “trying” things. I even got burnt out on Full Auto. Became boring! My two shooting excitements are pistol competition & long range shooting at Steel. (Especially the gong, Tha-WACK!) But unfortunately, I don’t really get chance to do either.
