My Impulse Journey Vol 3

Moss doesn't grow on a rolling stone and the same applies to my Impulse Predator rifles.
Since the beginning I wanted a stock with an easily adjustable cheek piece and Boyd's finally started inletting stocks for Impulse rifles.
I added an At one laminated thumbhole stock to the mix and it gave me the flexibility I needed when transitioning from thermal scopes to day optics and LOP adjustment when wearing summer and winter clothes.
Since it's a switch barrel rifle, I fit a bunch of barrels with QC kit's and now I have multiple barrel/caliber choices available.
I'm like a kid in a candy store.

I got tired of lugging around the long bull barrel 20-250 rifle and had the barrel shortened to 20 inches, threaded and bead blasted.
Still a heavy pig, but it' a lot easier to transport.

I sold the AGM Adder and topped it with a RIX L3.
It's a deadly combo and with both the Halo X50 + RIX L3 having BoBro scope mounts I can easily swap optics and barrels between rifles with no loss of POI.
I finally found and put in an order for a carbon fiber barrel chambered in 20-250 with a faster twist for lighter projos.
Nothing wrong with the 55 grn berger projo performance, but I don't need that heavy of a projo for the close ranges I hunt and I have a lot of lighter weight projos sitting around that I use in the turn bolt 20 practical rifle that's been collecting dust since my Predators were added to the stable.
Both rifles have performed admirably in any configuration I've tried them in.

Looking good! Man, those Boyd’s At-One stocks truly are a heck of a BANG for the buck! $250 for one of those, with adjustable LOP & comb. And they look fantastic! I wish I liked the classic more. Coulda saved a bunch of doh$. Unfortunately, I’m a Chassis dude through & through. But yours look great! The muzzle brake looks a little odd, but other than that, looks great.

Boyds was the only stock maker at the time making stocks for the Impulse, so I didn't have a choice.
They make a great stock, but they need to be bedded for better performance and consistent accuracy.
The bottom titanium QD brake on the 20-250 heavy barreled Predator wasn't timed for the pic and the top sports a titanium linear compensator that threads onto the titanium QD brake.
Since I only used one rifle at a time I just swap the linear comp.
Now I have two so when I go out with someone who borrows a rifle it's ready to go.
Chassis's are nice, but add a lot of weight.

This is really cool. How does the barrel and receiver fit together? Looks to me like the sleeve slides into the receiver and there is a set screw to hold it in place (2 small holes)?

The barrel threads into a Barrel Extension, and uses a Barrel Nut. Then the Extension slides into the Receiver and there are 2 or 3 cross bolts that clamp the barreled Extension into place. Shoots can explain it more in detail.

It is really cool and of course Savage was/is on the forefront of innovation once again.
The Impulse barrel assy consists of the barrel, barrel extension, recoil lug and barrel nut.
Unlike other switch barrel rifles, the use of a barrel extension means you don't need to have the barrel headspaced by a barrel smith, you can do it in minutes.
With a 1/8" Allen wrench you can swap pre headspaced barrel assy's in under two minutes with little to no loss of POI.
The barrel assy is secured to the Impulse receiver using a four bolt barrel clamp, with one bolt being a crossbolt.
The recoil lug is machined to interlock with the reciver to help aid in barrel assy alignment.
