Got to pop out early this morning to do a little shake out with a new build. Not too hot and no wind which was nice.

Just a little 300BO, axis receiver T&T by SSS, 16.25" Shilen from NSS, factory stick opened up a little with a Leupold 3-9.

Now for the excuses- have only put a handful of cheapo ammo through this rifle to do an initial break in and sight in. Loaded up some 125 SSTs over LilGun in virgin Starline brass with a COL out of the book, just somewhere to start and form some brass. Plus I haven't shot much in forever, the bugs were biting really bad, pretty sure Venus is retrograde etc etc ...

Velocity was 2325 which I was happy with, SD was 13 which I wasn't thrilled with but hopefully some actual brass prep will help that.

No delusions but encouraging progress so far. Rifle is a dream to shoot.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Yeah, my brother in law has a couple of cans and finally convinced me to go that route.

Was looking for something that could go either way and the BO fit the bill. Looked at the 8.6, 338 arc and a few others and decided the plain old BO fit the bill. Went with a 1:7 twist so hopefully no issue with the longer bullets.

Would have loved to go 9x39 but component availability won out in the end.

Nice. I'm hoping to finish up a 12FV/308 project this week and get it to the range. It also has a short barrel (20").

No loads cooked up yet but have a couple cases of FED Gold Match 168 on hand. Also have 1000 SMK168 bullets on hand so if it likes the FED 168 that would be a sweet starting point.

Nice build. 😊

Hey Mattri, in the future, try using

Good luck with the 308 build. I've never used the fed ammo but used their recipe before with 168 SMKs with excellent results.
Don't know if you're planning to run a can but if not and you shoot prone much those short barrel 308s get a little interesting😬

Thanks. Just need to Cerama-Coat the bolt, bake it, put it together and it's ready for the range trial. No can. I'm used to short barrel/prone and have a old dust pad.....but unless there is a hydraulic lift handy I don't shoot prone much any more. Bench and hood of Jeep/truck is more my norm these days. Injuries/surgeries/Titanium holding me together in various places has taken it's toll.....but I'm not going to stop shooting anytime soon. It's the best therapy known to me......aside from a couple pours of bourbon and a maduro cigar ;)

Nice weather for shooting. How often do you shoot these days?

Welcome aboard.
All 5 of my .308 like 168 SMKs, bolt actions and semis, and before I started hand loading, they performed really well with Fed GMM.
You made a good choice for a starting point.
