Savage 110 ultra lite 7prc

Bought a 110 ultra lite 7prc..shot a box of hornady eldx 175 gr..and was having a hard time ejecting the spent casing sent back the rifle to savage and they tightened the reamer and polished the ramp ( i think thats what it is ) and sent it back.i will be taking it out tomorrow,lets hope it's all good

There is no part called a “reamer”. Also, there is nothing in the Savage 110 Action assembly that can be tightened. Parts can modified only. The parts associated with ejecting the shells are the Extractor & Ejector. I’m also not sure what you mean by “ramp”.

Regardless, when it is still exhibiting the same issues, come back & let us know. We’ll try to get it figured out for you.

This is what they did..they took the bolt stop on it off..took it out today doing the same thing almost need a hammer to eject the casing..i put the bolt stop on it and it worked much better.still not great.

Ok, what they did was “Ream” & “Polish” the chamber. That’s the part of the barrel the cartridge is locked in. This is actually done for tight chambers in which the spent casing (shell), gets stuck & will not extract.

So then, I have to ask: Was your problem with the EXTRACTION or EJECTION? They are two very different issues. A problem with Extraction is when the case is stuck in the chamber. So when you pull the bolt either it’s STUCK, or when the bolt comes back, the case is still in the chamber. A problem with Ejection, is when the bolt is pulled back, the case comes out of the chamber, but then falls off the Extractor is left in the action to be fished out with finger tips. So which one was your problem?

Also, I hope I’m explaining this well enough. If you don’t understand anything I’ve said, please ask. I have no problem stating things again, using other terminology.

BTW: here is a “Chamber Reamer”. It’s a tool used in Gunsmithing.

After firing i am able to pull the bolt up and it gets stuck trying to pull the bolt back to extract the casing..when i put the bolt stop it was easier to pull the bolt back to extract the case..

Not sure what you mean by bolt stop? But, have you only tried only the ONE kind of ammunition? I would try another brand. Federal, Nosler, Remington, Weatherby, Choice & Berger all make 7mmPRC.

It’s possible there’s a problem with the primary extraction. But that’s easy to check. Use a feeler gauge between the Rear of the Action & rear Bolt Baffle. Take note of what size feeler can fit between the two. If you watch the bolt action, you can see how the Ramp on the rear baffle acts against the ramp of the bolt handle. This is Primary Extraction.


Unfortunately, if the gap between these two is too great, the only way to fix is either shimming the rear Baffle, or removing material from the bolt sleeve. (I’ve done both.)

I, also, don't know what you mean by "put the bolt stop". The bolt stop has nothing to do with extraction, it simply prevents the bolt from coming out of the action when fully back.

Your comment the bolt gets stuck when trying to extract the case leads me to believe you're experiencing significant case expansion.

Try a different brand of ammo. Could be the Hornady brass is simply too soft, somewhat a known issue, and expanding too much.

Just so we’re on the same page OP, below is the only part that can be called a “Bolt Stop” With the Savage 110, the bolt stop is actually the Bolt Release/Sear assembly. These used to be difficult to get find new , until just a couple years ago I spoke to the owner of Gun Shack about these & some other parts, which he agreed to start stocking. A couple other places picked up on this & now they are plentiful.

Not sure what part you mean? If it’s this one below, that is the Rear Baffle.

Ok, yes, it absolutely NEEDS the Rear Baffle. That is what controls the Primary Extraction. So, without that, the case will ALWAYS be stuck!

I’m agreeing with Seven, that the pressure is expanding the case. Causing it to stick more than it should. Again why I recommended trying another few different kinds of ammo. (Post #7). However, there may be an issue with your Primary Extraction. Once again, as I mentioned in post #7, try inserting a feeler gauge between the Rear Baffle and the back of the Action. (Like the picture I posted.) Try that next time you go shooting. Shoot a round, then BEFORE you turn the bolt, insert the feeler gauge. Then turn the bolt to extract the case. Take note of how it feels.
