The 110 has changed.

I was referring to using AICS mags over factory. OAL wasn’t part of the topic, but cool.👍😊
And I was referring to your comment, "(The ONLY mag anyone should use!)" and stating the reason I believe something different. Which does make it part of the discussion. Again, I prefer the factory mags. For performance and aesthetics.

Ahh, ok. Gotchya. Thank you for clarifying. Any case, you mentioned longer than 2.260”. I gather you’re referring to 223? I was alluding to the larger cartridges like 308, 6.5CM, 243Win, 260Rem. Most however, in order to load really long, need the chamber to be throated appropriately.

But I’m baggin’ what you’re rakin’ KMW.😊 Obviously aesthetics are 100% preference. We all know that. Where as my liking is towards the Aluminum Chassis & extended AICS mags, you indicated you prefer factory mags. Which, I’m guessing means you like the mag to be flush? And you probably prefer a more classic Stock?

Different choices & individual preferences in gear: It’s part of what makes this hobby so fun. Trading our ideas, and comparing/contrasting differences is an enjoyable part of all this.👍

Yes, to all accounts. The factory mag in my 223 I can load so long a 55gr bullet barely seats. Also shot a Savage in 6ARC which also goes by that 2.260" max length because of mag restrictions.

My favorite though is a Savage Model 10, 223 with the Blind magazine. That magazine will also load longer and still function.

Watched that video and agree that action is looking much like an Axis but I suppose that is evolution at work.

As a side note, since this is where the newer 110 is being discussed, what do people call this style of ejection port where there's still a lot of material left on the receiver versus some of the older models where that top third or so above the bolt body was shaved off?

For an example, the prior production run of the 110 Storm looked like this:

I'd imagine that the receiver with more material is stiffer, and there are a few different 110s that are now being offered with that style, not just magnums.

I've also seen "shrouded" and "target" and various monikers used to reference the ejection ports, but I at least haven't found the decoder ring to know exactly what folks are talking about. 😅

I have always known it as the Target Port as that is how it is/was presented on the Model 12 Target and Precision actions. Later universally used on the Axis models.

On a Savage it’s called a Target Ejection Port. I have heard the style “Shrouded” for this. However, I’ve mostly known this style to be called a “Hooded” Action. In any case, it’s not all that important what you call it. Most people are familiar with the Model 12 Target Actions anyway. And yes, any hooded Action is going to be stiffer, more ridged than an Open style Action. They are not typically chosen for hunting rifles though, as getting rid of a stuck case can be more problematic.

Dave It looks like right at 4.5 inches by a tape measurer, no calipers here to use for more accuracy unfortunately.

Thanks Casper. So, I’m thinking it’s still the same. Could it be 4.40” That’s been the Short Action size with Accutrigger for a long time. (2005) Or would you say there is NO WAY it’s less than 4.5”? That’s not much. .100”. Just about 2.5mm.

If it’s truly 4.5” someone at Savage needs to be fired! All these changes is why a lot of aftermarket companies don’t bother with Savage anymore. Like either leave it at 4.4 or just make it 4.8 to match the Axis. Would be nice to see some consistency like theyve done with the long action screw spacing.
Well I guess on the bright side it’ll be interactive with the old J short action…lol

Yes, it could be 4.40 Dave.
Ok, thank you Casper. Much obliged pard.😊 I do believe it’s likely the same size as the previous Short Action. So if we happen to have Chassis, they will fit. Kind of important for someone like me who has a Custom Mirage Chassis. If’n I ever get my hands on a new Action, I’d hate to drop another $1300+ on another one! 🤣

Yes, I think Pdog was correct, Savage would be insane to do that. Happy to help.

Finally found a pic showing the new Action with Accutrigger. You can see the differences between the two Accutriggers. I’ve read it’s now attached via two screws, or pins, over the old style with the back “hook” and single front pin.

JA Outdoors is now selling these.
https://jaoutdoors.com/product/savage-10-short-action-308/

Here is the Short Action with Target Port as of 2025, over the NEW Short Action as of 2026.

Besides the front pin circled, is it safe to assume THIS is the 2nd attachment pin? Doesn’t that look like a Roll Pin I circled in the back? Also, we can see the added hardware that now prevents tripping the Sear and locking up the trigger, from side-loading without depressing the safety blade. This addition makes the Accutrigger quite formidable.

We have absolute confirmation now that both the Short & Long 2026 Actions are the same screw lengths as before. It’s the same Long Action that has always been, and the same 4.40” length Short Action we’ve had for the last 2 decades. The video speaking about the two being one length Action, similar to the Axis was incorrect. Not sure where they were getting the info, but whatever.

Here are latest pictures of both showing the two distinctly different lengths as they are now.

Good to know. Thanks for confirming. I wonder if they measured or just judged by the way it looked.

Alan, no actual measurement other than visual. However, I’m going by some other factors as well. The 110RF is the same size as the short action. And it’s being sold by Savage Arms, in the MDT ACC Chassis. So if it fits the MDT Chassis, it’s the 4.40”. Also, until this picture above, I hadn’t seen a 2026 110 “Core” “Long Action”. By the obvious being the LA & SA are different lengths, they can’t then be the same Action. Also, although there is nothing in stone that the LA is the same length it’s always been, it makes no sense they would have changed. Especially when we can measure length over 90% correct in the computer software.
