I just got a Stevens 311 that i'm told was made in 1951. There is no serial number that i can see, nor any suffix to the model number. The stock is split at the wrist, and i see all sorts of stocks listed, i.e. type 1, type 2, etc. I don't know which one to get, can someone help me here please?
Thank you in advance!!

The year code is a small round circle with a letter inside, that is the year code. Believe mine was on the bottom of the receiver just behind the forestock.

I have a 311 that was missing several parts. It was my dad's and the shotgun I used thru my late teens. It ended up with me years after my dad died as none of my brothers wanted it. When I asked them where the forestock, trigger guard, and a few parts were no one knew, found them all on eBay.

Thank you for that info!!
I had rotator cuff surgery yesterday, so i'm in a cast and not typing fast at all, but i appreciate the replies and will do my best to respond.
Thanks again!!

Ahh..😬 I hear ya pard. Dislocated my shoulder & tore my rotator cuff on one of those Punching Power test machines, in my early 20’s. Me and another guy going at it, punch for punch, upping the last by a few pounds each time. It was on the Boardwalk and we managed to gather quite a few spectators. After several minutes, (and stupidly wanting to win, no matter what!), I put everything I had into my last punch. This beat the others guys score by 100LBS, drawing a much appreciated “GASP”😮 from the spectators. (I believe it was around 816LBS. of force in the end.) I knew what I did immediately! But I was able to “play it cool” LOL! My challenger shook my hand, conceding, saying, “No way I can top that man!” As we walked away & rounded a building, my wife & good friend with me, I grimaced in pain saying to buddy, “Dude! I dislocated my shoulder! PULL my arm, HARD!” By buddy, confused, grabbed my wrist with both hands as I pulled AWAY from him. It immediately set my shoulder back in socket, as my friend let go with a disgusted “Eew! WTF was THAT!?” I then explained to both what had happened.

I never did have it looked it. I didn’t know anything about rotator cuffs back then. And the difference in pain from when my shoulder was out of the socket, then relief when it went back in, meant it was “fixed” in my mind. LOL! It was sore for about 6-8 months, and I finally learned that I had torn my rotator cuff. Never was 100% again. I’ve actually dislocated the same shoulder maybe 5 other times since. But it always just pops back in and no lasting pain. Anywhos, just a funny little story from the past. But I get ya man.

We're on the same track! Had same surgery on my right shoulder Nov 3rd, am just now able to use it for some things without a lot of pain. Surgeon told me it will be a year to 13mos before it's completely back to normal.

Words of advice, do everything your surgeon and physical therapist advise and don't skimp on the at home PT!

Thank you for that advice, which i will follow. I have good doctors that shoot me straight so its in my best interest to follow their advice as well

ONE-TEN thank you for that info! I in fact have a C inside a circle, so that translates to 1951. Once i get the stock issue resolved, i'm really gonna enjoy this one!!
And SevenFan, i am doing my therapy assignments at home as well as at the clinic, even tho a couple of them really hurt. Well, no pain, no gain.

It will improve! The first month or so post surgery was challenging but at home cold therapy and pulley system really helped. If you don't have them I can send recommendations for both.

Ahh, pain is just… pain. I suffer acute, inoperable nerve pain from a perfect Brachial Plexus Injury. I’m in non-stop, mind bending pain that interferes with every facet of my life.

And truthfully, I only think about think about sticking a slug through my brain every…, oh, couldn’t be more than a few, or like, ten times a month!🫤 But hey, I also don’t drive, can’t even walk all that much & my wife is planning to abandon me soon. So, ya gotta look at the GOOD things.

Like life is SHORT!

Looks like you found the answer. 1951 it is.

I hope you get well soon and be back shooting. Take it easy.

Thank you to each of you! My doctor and therapists all say i'm doing well so i'm continuing my exercises and icing at home.
Info: I found a stock at Boyd's for just over $100 plus shipping, so i bought it. When its installed i will post pics, but i will say i'm impressed with it and looking forward to having it installed.

Yes, please. Don't forget to post about it.

Well, after an "extended" delay, for which i'm VERY sorry, the Boyd stock is installed, and i'm happy with it! In retrospect, i wish i had spent the extra for some checkering at the wrist, but i'm still thrilled with it!!
Thank all of your for your inputs and wishes! I'm one week out of my cast, and altho its still tender and my range is somewhat limited, i'm gonna be ready come deer season (with my Marlin .35 Remington)!

That looks good. Don't forget to share when you go out when deer season comes.
