My Impulse Journey Vol 5

As I mentioned in Vol 4, I put an Impulse Elite Precision rifle on layaway so I could get my hands on the MDT ACC Elite chassis.
I've been reloading 6mm creedmoor for rifles I built for a couple of my buddies and am very impressed with the cartridge, so I got it chambered in 6 CM.
You can't just have two Impulse Predator rifles !!
I paid it off early so I could get some field use during the late 2025 Predator season.
Now I have an Impulse Elite Predator rifle in the stable.

The MDT stock is a great addition, but it made the svelt 20-250 rifle very heavy.
After lugging it around for the last two months of the season I made the decision that some modifications are needed to make it more betterer.
Being it's a switch barrel rifle, I had plans to use it for Predator hunting with the 20-250 barrel and Comps with the 6mm CM barrel.
I use a Blaser TacII for Comps and I'm not shooting that many comps now a day's, So I decided to modify the ACC stock for predator hunting.
I'm going to chop off a foot from the forestock area and replace the Elite buttstock with a 13oz fixed HNT-26 carbon fiber fixed buttstock.
That should make the rifle almost four pounds lighter.
Of course the Cobalt green buttstock wasn't in stock anywhere at the time, so I put one on backorder in early April and just got notice it's been shipped today, 7/24.
Christmas in July.
I'm an admitted Impulse Predator junkie, So I placed a max bid on an enhanced Impulse Predator rifle with accessories that was up for bid on an auction site and promptly forgot about it.
Five days later I got notice that I was the highest bidder.
Now I have four Predator rifles with nine QC barrel assy's.
Two set up for Night hunting, One for day hunting and one for testing.
When I go all in, I go ALL in.

It’s good to see such excitement about Savage rifles.

One question though…. How is one foot less handguard & a CF stock going to save 4lbs? The ACC chassis weighs 5lbs total.

Night Predator hunting has lost challenge....NV (even Gen1) was bad enough but then thermal took over years ago. The thrill of calling, even with mouth calls both diaphragm and blown, with scan and kill lights has faded away. Now it's thermal, long shots and stack 'em up.

But it's still nice to see night pred hunting recognized. But it's a breeze nowadays. I'm an old school predator hunter. Helped run a popular MD/PA/VA/DE/NJ contest a while back. Big sponsors like Foxpro, Nighteyes, Wicked, All predator calls.com, etc....Humane Society/PETA helped get it banned. Hated to see it go. But the old schoolers couldn't bring in what the high tech NV and thermal contestants did. The fun was erased anyway.

The Gen 1 ACC chassis with the SRS Adj buttstock weighs in at 6.6 lbs +/- on my digital bathroom scale.
The HNT-26 fixed buttstock swap will shave off 1.6 lbs alone and removing 3/4 of the forend will shave off around two pounds I'm guessing.
Carbon fiber grip and a little trimming of the chassis with the mill in key spots should get me to almost four pounds.
I had knee surgery 7/1, so I won't know till I'm able to get down to the shop in a few weeks.
I was waiting till I had the HNT-26 buttstock installed before doing anything, as I was planning on trimming off the forend in small increments as a way to balance the rifle.
It figures that the buttstock will get here next week and I won't be able to do shit with it.
Something to look forward to doing after getting tortured by the PT.

I've been predator hunting for almost 50 years and have been using any gadget I can get my hands on to even the odds.
I don't want a challenge, I want to kill them as efficiently as possible.
Coyote were getting out of hand and those song dogs knew where to hide.
I hunted daylight and a little night hunting with a red light every once and awhile,
I mostly schooled coyote when hunting with the red light, as I hunted alone most of the time and they would be long gone before I could spot them in the scope.
Night vision evened the score a little, but thermal is a game changer and I was hooked after being introduced to it in the mid 90's.
When I started hunting with thermal my coyote numbers went up drastically as they couldn't hide in the shadows anymore.
I became the top predator.
I don't hunt in contests and don't hunt coyote for fun + games.
It's no fun when farmers and their families see their livestock or pets half eaten or never seen again, or when homeowners are afraid to let their pets out at night in fear of them disappearing.

Shame they done make the HNT-26 for the Impulse. If I was still hunting, bet all that’d be the stock I would use. 26oz Total! Thing is a featherweight!

When the HNT-26 chassis was introduced a buddy got one for a sheep hunt build.
I thought the box was empty when he brought it over.
After getting the ACC chassis I wanted to swap stocks right away, but no one had a fixed Green Cobalt available.
I hounded MDT for years to make a chassis for the Impulse, but those inquiries fell on deaf ears.
It's sad that I had to buy a rifle to get an MDT chassis.
Slowly but surely the Impulse is getting aftermarket support.

Hey, look at aftermarket parts for the 110.. there were a few Chassis & Triggers for some time, but the last 8yrs roughly, the aftermarket has exploded with parts! So it’s expected. But I think the Impulse is here to stay, so we’ll likely get more & more aftermarket support in the next few years.
