.17 WSM

I have another thread about stocks? Must be all those meds I get from the VA. Lol

Ummmm...yes sir.....guess it's time to see the Doc and inquire about increasing, decreasing or dropping a couple meds....

WSM brags

20gr @ 3000fps
25gr @ 2600fps

That’s pretty impressive for a little Rimfire.

I was looking at starting loads for the hornet but full potential runs roughly 500fps faster on both counts. Considering the same or similar polymer tipped bullet. There is quite a bit more case to work with. And a 30gr I would think hits pretty hard.

That’s not considering the possibility of an “improved” chamber.
I've been reloading 17 WSM, here's some results ...

"Are you reloading fired cases or pulling the bullet and loading the new brass?"
Pulling bullets & using primed cases to reload with new powder. I have Prime All primer on hand, but am still experimenting with adding a binder before priming fired cases.
"What do you use for a shell holder?"
17 Hornet. Not perfect, but works fine to pull/seat bullets.
25 Stevens Wildcat sounds interesting. I lack the resources to attempt such a project!
Check-Out Rimfire Central Forum, "Reloading 17 WSM" for additional Info.

Btw:, how is that Primall? I’m just starting to save all my spent primers. Try to re-prime them in the future. Do you have your own recipe, or using the one found online?

The Prime-All goes bang when struck with a hammer. I have plenty of factory 17 WSM to pull bullets and use the primed cases to reload in my search for better accuracy. Attached .PDF has lots of primer formulations.

The 25 Stevens is a 25 rimfire strait wall case. If I can straitened out the WSM it should be pretty much identical. A 25acp round nose should be quite similar to the original projectile. Im currently on the prowl for a mold.

I’ll start a separate thread when I make some progress.

Yes, that’s the same information I have. I’m interested in making/using the
EPH 26 formula.

WOW! That case Rim is blown up like a balloon! LOL! That would be worrisome if it was more powder than just about enough to take a fingernail off.😂

Fabbed a cheek riser for my 17 WSM B-Mag out of ½ inch packing foam (firm, not rigid). Tapered the lower edge with an electric carving knife, then smoothed that up with 60 grit sand paper. Secured to cheekpiece comb with RealTree EDGE Duck-Tape. Cheek weld/sight box combination is now great … should help with shot group accuracy.

Isn't prime-all corrosive?

There are several formulas. Some corrosive, done non-corrosive. The original used for a long time, H48 IS corrosive because it contains Potassium Chlorate. I’m looking at the formulas using Lead Hypophosphite, which is NOT corrosive.

However, as long as it’s cleaned with soap/hot water each time, it’s never a problem.
