I am thourghly confused. My 99 serial number range says made in 1952. The code in front of the lever has a 2B in an oval.
Which signifies made in 1950. It also says this code is generally more accurate than the serial number

It’s by the date code, NOT the serial number. With Model 99’s with Date Codes, the Serial Number does not reflect the year of production.

Yeah. And you know WHERE it was made! In Chicopee Falls, MA.

Now, if you can post a Picture, I’ll tell you precisely WHICH Model 99 it is.

Or, if you are unable, just study this slide video of all the Models and match to yours.

The date code determines the year of manufacture on Savage rifles produced prior to 1968. The serial number has nothing to do with date of manufacture until after 1968. ;)
