Another 110L project

I bought another 110 L project gun. It was made in 1965 and the barrel was not made to have sights installed. I have one other that was made this way. I have scope mount for it already. It was missing the floorplate and magazine follower along with the screws for it. Which I happen to have. It does not have the original stock on it and not sure who made the stock on it. It’s a bit rough but I think it will clean up nice. Needless to say it a bit rough but I believe it will clean up nicely. Got it for $175

Hope it works out well for you. Only problem, it being a Pre-1966 model. Many of the new parts won’t fit, and the older parts just aren’t available. The Bolt assembly is completely different. Same with the Barrel. And only a couple places have Prefit Barrels for the Pre-66. Ejector is on the magazine box.

As long as your parts are in good shape, should be good.

I do have a small supply of pre 66 parts. Triggers safeties extractors ejectors a complete spare bolt assembly and more. My concern is the condition of the barrel. It is bright and looks typical for a savage barrel but If it doesn’t hold a tight group I will have to swap barrel and then I would consider a different caliber. I really don’t need another 30-06.

Spent a few hours cleaning the action with a nylon brush and hoppe’s no 9 and it came out looking really good. The stock is definitely not factory original and will need some work to get it to fit correctly. Barrel channel is to tight. Especially at the barrel boss. Having to get scope bases the leupold standard 110 bases I have don’t line up for the screws to fit. So far very happy with it.

Nice bluing on that barrel! Wish mine was like that, but, it is original unrestored with almost 70yrs of wear.

It really is in fantastic condition, despite its age.

Do you know what the stock is from? Is it aftermarket? I thought at first it was from a model 114 American Classic. But there differences. The end cap looks attached at an angle, where as on the 114 AC, it’s attached at 90°. And your stock is missing the two black reinforcement studs under the receiver, found on the 114 AC. The only other Savages I know of that came with a Monte Carlo Stock was the 110 125th Anniversary edition.

I believe it’s an aftermarket stock. I cannot make out the name on the recoil pad maybe someone can tell what it is. Savage 110 premium grades came with Monte Carlo stocks like this 110PL model.

I determined that it has a DuPont Neoprene Grand-Luxe Olympic Model recoil pad. Guessing it a Herter’s aftermarket stock. Don’t see it being a Fajen or Bishop from back in the day.

HA! Yeah right! My left eye is 100% blind, like BLACK WALL! And my right eye heavily corrected with Astigmatism. Good is not a term I think of with my eyesight. I’m just REALLY attentive to detail…. And I know how to enlarge & enhance image quality just enough to make out details hard to distinguish. LOL! On a serious note, I am very thankful to The Lord that I am right eye dominant & it was not that eye I lost for sight.

Back to your thread, glad that was sorted on the Stock. It’s good to know what one has.

I have it cleaned up and put a weaver k6 on it so I can take it to see how well it shoots to see if I have to swap the barrel. I did locate another Herter’s recoil pad like the one on it that new in the box that I will swap ones it shows up.

Ay! She came up looking pretty dang good for a rifle made in 1965! Even that scope fits with the aesthetic to a T. I am drawn more to the modern look of my rifles, as it were. However, I appreciate the classic look when done properly. Impressive, pard

Nice vintage scope choice, have a K6 on my '59 Marlin 336ADL. Amazing clarity for it's vintage.

Yeah, I 100% agree. That’s precisely what I was referring to. Had he put on a modern high power scope with 50mm or 56mm objective, target turrets and side focus, it would have looked out f place. But that classic style scope compliments the rifle perfectly! I’m no collector, but it really is a beautiful, classic rig.
