I just wanted to thank the guys at Dick Williams Gunshop in Saginaw, Mi for all the help they gave me fixing my old 110 bolt. Had a primer blow and jam the ejector deep inside the bolthead . I was trying to just replace it, but it seems a long action pre accu trigger 110 bolthead is rare and NOBODY makes them anymore. I was looking at buying a new one along with the smaller firing pin , but they worked some magic and extracted my ejector and got me back in business. If you need a good small gunsmith shop in lower Michigan give them a visit. They're great people. I walked in and asked what could be done and they just took it and started working. Reasonable rates too!

That's rare, I would definately keep their number handy if I lived in that area. I've had guns sit in a gunsmith's shop for 4 months for a rebarrel, when I supplied the barrel blank and reamer.

Well it is the off season , but don't even think about getting work done in the fall when hunting season starts. They do get pretty busy

Common occurrence. One reason I do only Prefit barrels. In today’s world, there is a Prefit for just about every single Action. Either Barrel nut style or for Custom Actions, they even have shouldered Prefits because they are machined to very precise specifications. Much like barrel replacement on an AR15. Of the many, many AR’s I’ve put together or replaced a barrel on, I’ve never had one that failed headspace.

I myself, like the jam nut style because I can set it up to have minimal, adjustable headspace from the start. When fireforming new brass, I don't want it needing to stretch any further than necessary to to conform to my chamber. The least you stretch it in that first firing, and the least you need to work it during subsequent resizing, is the key to long life from that expensive Lapua brass.

I agree. I’m a proponent of using a Barrel Nut. For the same reason.i like setting my own headspace. Also, I don’t see the need for anything over a 1” diameter barrel. Actually, I’ve come to love the MTU profile. Also, I’m not running a RUM, Lapua Mag, or any of the other wildcat BIG Magnums! Standard highpower cartridges work just fine through 1” barrels.

And as far as stretching goes, I don’t worry about it..I use a 260AI. So, no stretchy! But I hear ya & agree.

He charged me an even $45 which I was VERY willing to pay. That also included all new extractor, spring and detent ball, along with new ejector and associated parts!!

Very true. Since this was an older M110, I would have been forced to buy the newer bolt head and the new small diameter firing pin to go along with it so yea, he saved me some $$. It's a small, full service gunsmith shop that started in the 1960s in his dad's garage. I try to do my part in keeping them in business. Good local shops are hard to come by in 2026.

Agreed! Most things are built with planned obsolescence. We're expected to dispose and buy a new one.
