Tripod for shooting

Who’s using a Tripod for shooting. I’ve been looking at several and found a good deal on an Artcise Carbon Fiber 62” Tripod, pared & a 50mm Ball Head with Arca Swiss rail attachment. Combined it has 55lb. max load capability. Just about $200. There are others and weight capability up to 70lbs.+, but the cost of some of these is unreal. Especially the ones that are advertised being for rifle shooting. All the same things, same Arca Swiss attachment. But prices are $500, $600, $700+! ‍ Nuh-Uh! Look for the ones advertised for cameras, but outfit correctly, and 1/3rd, 1/4 the price!

For what use? I've used several for hunting. In my Avatar pic is a Bog Pod with wide adapter. I had two of them and upgraded to the Bog Pod Death Grip. I liked the Bog Pods because they didn't break the bank and they didn't break during the hunt. Easy to carry, collapse, and extend to and between sets. They also had several swivel attachments that were Ideal for predator and varmint hunting. Prone, sitting, using a stool or standing they did it all.

I have 2. I use a bog with the upgrade kit from barker outdoors https://theoutdoorbarker.com/webstore/ols/products/bog52combo for shooting off of in my stand. I also have a Fanaue that I've had for about a year and it's a lot lighter and easier to use than the bog. I use it for nrl hunter matches and thermal hunting. I got the ST-45 but looks like they have the ST-65 which will have a bigger ball head and be more stable and only $30 more.

For my use as a run+gun predator hunter where weight, quick set up and adjustability are key, the Primos Gen 3 tall trigger stick with a hog or pig saddle is my go to tripod set up.
If I need more stability for longer range shot's, I bungee a Primos Gen 3 tall trigger stick monopod to the buttstock.
While I don't have one or never used one, the Primos Apex carbon fiber trigger stick is rated for heavier loads.

I only have a small bog pod for the table top. I use it for hand guns.

I have a couple of them. Mainly use them for hog and varmint hunting, but have also shot long range targets out to a mile with them.
The first one I got was a Caldwell Magnum FieldPod. It's heavy - 13 lbs., but it is pretty damn stable to shoot off of. It's also nice to use while hunting stuff at night because you can scan fields / pastures with handheld night vision or thermal units instead of having to use your rifle to scan.

My other is a Benro Mach 3 tripod with a ZRODelta head unit on it. I wasn't a fan of Arca rails when they came out, and most of my rifles have picatinny rails on the bottom of the stocks or handguards.
I really like this setup, it's fast to setup, and will hold a lot more weight than anything I put on it.

Here's a pic I have of both my tripods while a buddy and I were hog hunting....have a nice tank dam overlooking one of my feeders that has lights on it. I have a savage on the fanaue and he has this gun in the hog saddle on the bog....I put an arca adaptor on the bottom of that hog saddle so it can be used for guns that don't have an arca rail or removed and gun can be clipped in directly to the tripod.

I use the BogPod from the patio of my walkout basement for long range varminting. I like it a lot. It holds the heavy barrel guns solidly and helps when I'm shooting varmints.

Here are the components I’m looking at. They are made by Artcise, and only about $180 together.

The Tripod has 32.5mm diameter, Carbon Fiber tubes and extends to 62”. It has a 55lb load limit.


The Ball Head is completely CNC’d & made of Aluminum. Uses an Arca Swiss with QD lever. Also sted to 55lbs.

Fancy? Don’t know what’s fancy about it?? Simple enough design. And, it will support a 55lb. load for less than I’m seeing some “shooting” tripods of the same rating.

I was looking at the BOGpods. But the closest Carbon Fiber Death Grip pod is like $240. But it doesn’t have an ArcaSwiss Ball head, and 40lb max load, compared to the less expensive Artcise I’m looking at. So I’m not looking for “fancy”. Just the most bang for the buck partner

Long range hunting to keep it steady but I don't think it has to be expensive. Simple design and within budget like what you shared from Artcise will do the job.

Bog Pod aint fancy and cheaper for the those in "inclement" situations. Folks get too fancy for hunting.

Ahh! No hunting! Should have said that earlier when asked Well for shooting "distance" at targets w/out a static bench that widens things quite a bit. What is the distance? Long range?....I'd look at portable folding tables vs tripods designed for mobility.

I use a BogPod Deathgrip and love it. Although it is a tad heavy, It secures the rifle or crossbow very well.

Looking at what's available from Artcise, I'd go with the AS90C tripod, it has a little bigger legs and will be more stable, you'll want it as stable as possible if shooting distance off it.

I looked at that, and being able to support almost 90lbs is incredible. However, by the time I put the head on, with the same weight rating, it would cost $350+. That’s more than I want to spend. With any equipment, I always research available and draw a line of what I’m willing to spend. Comparing to other Tripods, 40lbs.-50lbs. load capacity seems to be the normal. Even on very expensive pods. The one I’m looking at ends up roughly $180 for 55lbs load capacity.

I watch all these hunt's in Africa on You Tub and all they use are three sticks and electric tape. Wife says I'm cheap!
