I just came across this forum by way of a notification on another forum. I own a MkII and my son owns a, what, 25a? I don't recall for sure. It's one of the Depression-era (or maybe a bit later) "boys' guns." My daughter has a Rascal.

My profession is that of a gunsmith of sorts; I am owner of Smith-Sights LLC and make sights, triggers, etc. for Mosin-Nagants. I enjoy rimfire, 1911 pistols (and build my own,) milsurp, fishing, mountain biking, bike repair, auto tech, camping, guitar, and a bunch of other stuff.

Regards,

Josh

Welcome to the forum @Josh Smith that's a good time bonding with the kids. Are you working on any builds these days?

Not really. I've been thinking about building a 10mm 1911 and a 2011-style in a yet-to-be-determined caliber. I'd also like a Commander and a BHP, so we'll see what comes.

My kids are both in robotics and their teams tend to rank high. My daughter's, for example, is first place in the region. This means lots of traveling for all-day competition, and this eats up a fair amount of my free time.

Turns out I have a gift for teaching special needs kids, and I've been debating closing up shop, getting a degree in that, and going to the local school for troubled youths. We'll see. Life is too long not to do everything you want.

Here's my current carry 1911. It's built from a RIA, and contains all Wilson, EGW, Colt, and Brown parts. It retains the original barrel (refitted,) slide and frame. The idea is to have something high-quality that I don't feel bad about scuffing up with use.
