Can person be competitive with a Savage BTVSS?

Is it going to need, barrel, trigger, action work, tuner. etc...

Found a good deal on one but I already have one money pit, not looking for another

Walmart had one for 200 and change awhile back. I should have gabbed it. I have a 93 and it shoots great.

What kind of competition do you plan on doing? If your really into it, you'll always be looking for the magic bullet, tweeking something on the stock, rifle, scope, etc. Once you get started in competition it's never ending. That's just not with a Savage, that's any rifle made. I've been there and done that. I enjoyed it and don't regret it at all.

The post above speaks volumes. Yes, you can be competitive with the BTVSS. And you will most likely want to improve things with the rifle, as you improve. This is just normal competitiveness & drive. Here’s the truth, when a person is new to competition, the gear they use means very little. This is true across any type of sporting event. Take Golf for instance. When a person starts playing Golf, it doesn’t matter if they use a set a custom set of top of the line Callow clubs, or a basic set of inexpensive KVV clubs. Won’t be so good. I played golf when I was in my 20’s. And with a cheap Wilson #1 Wood, I could drive 400yds! (That was back in 2002 when Tiger Woods had the record at something like 480yds). Another example going with shooting: My eye sight is bad enough, that I don’t benefit from top tier Glass. I use a “good” scope with good optics, clarity and such. But a $3000 scope doesn’t make things more clear to me, than my $1000 scope.

Anyway, my point is, the best rifle on Earth isn’t going to spontaneously make a person more competitive, or “better”.

I know what you mean. I had the same issue. After cataract surgery, it did improve a little.

I still have some problems with either the reticle or the target getting blurry after some shooting, even after I got the reticle focus with the eyepiece just right.
I suspect that it might be barrel heating causing some heating in front of the scope most times, but it now often happens even after I have cooled to barrel. Can't seem to figure out why.
I have switched back and forth between progressive lenses and target glasses without progressive lenses. But it still occurs, even with a cold barrel.
