220 Swift ?

does anyone know if a 220 Swift can be built on a left-hand single-shot 112V Series J Savage action ?

or if a 460 Weatherby can be ?

It would be a sweet project. I really like the 22-250 round. The swift has more oomph.

As for the 220 Swift, YES. No problem. It was actually available chambered in 220 Swift at one time, as seen from the add below.

However, 460 Weatherby would be more comfortable in the Large Shank, & Long Action. Like the used for the Model 112 Magnum Target 338 Lapua.

The Swift is a whole new animal if you chamber it in a fast twist barrel. Go down to a 1:8" twist or so and the Swift as the capacity to really shoot the heavier bullets at distance.

I went with a fast twist 22.250 Ackley Improved for the longer case life (less stretch), availability and cost of brass and give up less than 1 grain of powder capacity.

Oh nice! Bet that’s a shooter! I’m such a fan of Ackley Improved cartridges. They pack so much performance. And still able to fire the cartridge they were formed from, is a bonus.

My Bergara 22-250 has a 1:9 twist. It does well with 75 grain match bullets. My Howa has 1:12 it handles up 60 grain.

Sorry wjredlabel, who were you directing this to? Working in a Short Action was never a question. Or in dispute. Unless, were you simply seeking clarification?

The list above only lists it in long action which is not true because I bought one new in 12 bvss

I see. Actually the list is still correct. As I posted at the beginning of the thread, 220 Swift was offered in the 112V. Remember, from 1988-1997, the Savage Model 110 was offered in Long Action ONLY, regardless of the cartridge it was chambered for.

But you are correct, that is was also available in Short Action.

Savage essentially used a long tail on the front baffle and a filler on the internal box magazine to convert long action to short. Bought one chambered in 7-08 for my wife in '87 or '88, DIL has it now.
