Question about Nightforce Reticle

Not everyone has the means to buy even one, let alone MULTIPLE “Several-thousand $$ scopes”. Bad form looking down on another person for it. REALLY bad.

I am a true believer in you should have at least paid twice as much for the scope as you do the rifles. The scopes are forever. Rifles come and go. All of those scopes were bought used at a big reduction in cost from the 6mmbr forum for Sale items. 90% are on $500 dollar Savage rifles. I am 82 years old and it has taken me years to gather all the things I have today. I am a shooter. I do not look down on anyone.

That pretty well sums it up. I am also a shooter and have been for over 70 years and look down at no one. May offer a hand to some, but never look down. Whatta Hobby!

Obviously I’m not saying there is anything wrong with buying or owning an ultra expensive, Top Tier optic.Just as there is nothing wrong with buying/owning ultra expensive rifles. Heck, I’d have several, including my favorite IOR Valdada, a Tangent Theta & maybe a Hensoldt.. just cause! If’n I had the disposable income that is. LOL! And merely owning them doesn’t make one think they are high & mighty or above others.(But anyone making a disparaging statement like “can always tell a person whose most expensive scope is only $600.” Insinuating their knowledge & equipment are inferior to the them making the statement. No, I’ve always encouraged, if ya got the DOH, KUDOS!

The used scope market can be great! Unfortunately, it’s not at all reliable. Might be able to find what you want, might not. I’m picky about he features I want. And I have no interest in buying a super expensive scope in a style & having features I don’t want, simply because it’s Top Tier & on sale for a great price. Smellin’ what I’m steppin’ in? For instance, the Swarovski D5 Digital, 5-25x52 rifle scope is a $5,200+ optic. But it’s a hunting scope with a simple cross-reticle & low, capped turrets. It’s the complete opposite of style & features I want. If I found it on sale USED, for $500, I wouldn’t get it. (Not speaking about reselling it for profit.)No, it just would be useless to me. That’s what I mean with the used scope market.

There are a few (like three), very nice scope options that are/were around $1000. If the style & features fall within one’s purview, they are fantastic performing options. One is the Athlon Ares ETR 4.5-30x56. Another is the scope I use. I fall into that category as well with the US Optics TS-20x 2.5-20x50.(discontinued) Althougn these scopes aren’t as nice as say Nightforce or Valdada, etc, they are still very nice optics and simply are NOT the Chinese made scopes of yore! LOL! Unfortunately, there will always be some who simply believe if it’s from China, it’s junk.

Thin skin can be easily overcome once one realizes keyboard comments are usually one dude's opinion and they are a dime a dozen. In this day and age it's very easy to misinterpret even the best of comments if you are looking for negativity. I like to give all posters the benefit of the doubt and assume they are on the up and up. Makes life much easier to enjoy. Whatta Hobby!

No one was commenting about your financial situation. Go back and read it again - those who often speak poorly of high-end optics have never owned such a scope.

I have had excellent results with buying used scopes. I have bought a couple of dozens of them. Nightforce, Sightrons & Leupolds have a life time warrantee. So if something goes wrong with just send it in for repair free of charge. I have never got a bad scope yet. I only buy scopes in perfect condition no marks of any kind. You pay a little more for them but if you ever decide to sell them you will be able to get all your money back and maybe make a little. People who buy expensive scopes usually take really good care of them. That's my opinion and it has worked out great for me. See ONE-TEN disagree on buying used scopes.

I made segregated investments during my 60 year working career especially for hobbies during retirement and am now enjoying buying what I want and haven't had to touch the principal yet. One scope I bought and was not impressed with is a Leupold Mark 5HD 7-35x56 N5C3 FFP with a PR2 Mil retical. That's when I picked up the Majests and decided I was better off with the NightForce Comp. 15-55 that I started with. Sorry to hear that you aren't pleased with the two scopes you tried.
But your statement about your NightForce Competition 55X makes me more convinced that I ought to add a NightForce Competition 55X to my suite of scopes. Now all I have to do is find the money and a new in the box scope.

Sorry, when did I say I disagree? Used scopes, firearms, whatever don’t bother. It’s simply a “take what you get” market. Can’t count on the scope style/reticle, etc., you want being available for sale used. I was quite clear on this in post #33.

@NF1E - I've had a couple of Leopolds, nothing as nice as their Mark 5 line up though. My first two, circa 1990, were amazing at that time. As time when on, I felt like their new products were overpriced. Still a beautiful piece of glass, but there are nicer ones out there.

The Nightforce Comp 15-55 looks interesting and I know a lot of pros love it. I may have to dig deeper into it when I need another SFP scope.

And retirement, when done right, is AWESOME!

I've been following a guy on another forum, who has a couple of them now. From his comments - they seem to be a good quality, China made, optic that uses Japanese HOYA ED glass.

The two best options in under $500 is the Arken or, believe it or not, the SWFA SS, FIXED power scopes. With the 12x42 being the best option. For $300, they are reliable, very tough optics with clear glass.

However, the point of this thread is my looking at the Nightforce NX6. I do believe I’m going to end up with on in the future.
