Question about Nightforce Reticle

Wondering if anyone is using a Nightforce scope with their Mil-C Reticle. I’m curious, and looking at their new line. But I’m not sold on their reticle options. My 2 choices are the Mil-C & Mil-XT. The XT just looks crowded. The C looks a bit “scrunched” up actually. But on paper it looks the better of the two. I don’t know. 🤷 Anyway, just wondering people opinion who are using them. Pictures of the two below.

I find those reticles distracting for target shooting. I use the NP2DD reticles - simple and easy to get the reticle right on the POA.
If I was shooting at varying distances, or hunting from a blind or a spot where I had ranged a lot of different locations, those reticles would be very valuable in adjusting the POA quickly.
Wind adjustments would still be a guess, I suppose, since wind is rarely consistent over long distances and is more impacting closer to the target when the bullet velocity is decreasing. And that is exactly where you can't measure in advance.

The NP2DD reminds me of a reticle for a Prism sight. Similar to what I use on my AR/AK.

But I do prefer some type of cross bars with hash marks for a long range reticle. Allows the shooter to range their target without laser range finder. They do look different when viewed on ACTUAL scenery, vs the picture on screen. Here’s an outside view of the Mil-XT.

In any case, I’m looking at the Nightforce NX6 5-30x56. It’s still way above my settled price point for a scape, but, eh.. Who knows.

I like the busy reticles.
Well, I don’t like them too, too crazy. But the more I’m seeing the Mil-XT, Christmas Tree style reticle, the more I like it. Again, it looks bad in just the WHITE background picture, but pictures of it actually viewed in the outdoors against real background, it looks good.

I’ve been using the GENIIXR reticle for years. And I really like it. But honestly, I’ve wanted a cross-Dot reticle reticle for quite some time. So if’n I jump, I believe that will be the one. This NX6 looks really good. I like that they did away with the 3-Allen dog screws for the Turret retention. (Always hated those!) Many scopes use the single top flat head screw, which is nice. (My USO uses that style.) But the NS6 Turrets use an even better system. 14.9” long, which isn’t too bad. Not to mention over 120MOA (34.9MIL) Elevation. And of course, the legendary Nightforce toughness & longevity. Nightforce scopes are known to have the LEAST amount of problems. For $2100, it’s a great scope. Probably a bit cheaper in time, being it’s new 2026.

You might want to take a look at the Maven RS4.2 5-30X56 FFP.

Both are built on a 34mm tube so you'll have plenty of Elevation/Windage adjustment. Both use premium Japanese glass, but somehow the Maven holds a better "edge-to-edge" clarity and color correction. While Nightforce is always going to be the toughest optic out there, it often comes down to image clarity and reticle.

I have two of the identical Mavens, both have their CFR-MIL Reticle. At 20x to 30x the reticle really doesn't look too busy.

I have a bunch of NF scopes. Currently my favorite is the Competition 15-55 with an FCR-1 reticle. Then I like the simple FDR on my Sightron S6.
Sightron - definitely a great scope manufacture. I have one of their SIII Long Range 10-50X60 SFP.

The only Sightron that interests me is the SVIII 5-40x56. That is a HELL of a scope! The MH6 is a very nice reticle, has a 40mm main tube with 40Mils Elevation. It’s also quite a handsome piece. However, it’s ENORMOUS. And at $3200+, is far outside my price range. I also don’t need 40x. And even at that, I’ve already vowed, if I ever COULD (or would), shell out $3-G’s for precision Glass, I’d get the IOR Valdada (EDIT: 4-28x50.)

I did see another interesting review of the Nightforce I’m looking at. The owner said it has the nicest eye-box of ANY scope he’s ever looked through! That’s high praise indeed.

UNDER $2K? Since when.. ever? It’s a near $3K scope. USED, maybe around $2K. No, Valdada scopes are not cheap. Only a couple are right at about $2K. But the one I’m speaking of is $2,900 and is still available. Also has my favorite reticle ever. The X1 Reticle. Beautiful Schott Glass Gorgeous picture!

Oh.. you’re thinking of the G2 4.5-28x50 scope they make. It’s $1,995. But not the one I was speaking of. EDIT: Sorry, it’s the 4-28x50 I really like.

I have many types of reticles. I use my tree style reticles a lot for hold offs.
There are some that are just too busy, but most of the tree style are very useful.

Nightforce makes a great scope, but their glass isn't as good as other scopes in the same price ranges.

Why would you write a response like above and later discover that you listed the incorrect model? If the information you provided was wrong and the reply was based upon you giving the wrong part number - Man up and say you made a mistake.

Different eyes see things differently. I’ve read many, many reviews of people who think the Nightforce/Japanese Glass is superior. (Or at least on par.)

My take is good glass is good glass. 94%-96% light transmission the highest the best scopes on earth can generate. Can an every human eye really discern a 1% difference? Everyone? Even most people? Now, I know everyone talks about Color Contrast, Edge Quality and the infamous Chromatic Aberration.
To me, Color Contrast is tricky. People like different color shades. So a different color “contrast” through one scope, may look BETTER to one person & worse to another.

Ok, now, Edge Clarity is granted. Although, all that needs to be super clear, is the target view. I mean, not for nothing🤷

And last is Chromatic Aberration. Honestly, when I hear online people talking about this, to me they are talking out their backsides. Here’s what is supposed to be an example of Chromatic Aberration! Now, if the “corrected” & “un-corrected” weren’t there, do you really believe you can discern a a difference here?? And is it worth an extra $1000!? Or another $2000!!?

Anyone can go on YouTube and see guys shooting 1000yds, 1200yds, 1500yds even a Mile, using inexpensive scopes! I just watched one with a guy puts a $225 Arken SH4, 4-16x50 on his Bergara M40 style rifle, and process to hit the small round plates at 950yds. And he also speaks of something I’ve touched on. How cheaper, Chinese made scopes aren’t the same as 20+ years ago. EVERYTHING has changed so much. However, the Top Tier scopes haven’t really changed in the last 20 years. If they were at 95,96% light transmission then, it’s not like they are at 190% now! (Although I think some Scope Schnobbs out there think like that!)

It’s just there is a ceiling to optics sight picture. Yet somehow, manufacturers think there is no cap on prices. And I guess not, because someone will always spend the money.

You can always tell when someone's most expensive scope is six-hundred dollars as they always protest, it's not worth two, three or even four-thousand dollars for a high-end piece of glass.

Listening to ex-spurts on the internet can be amusing, to say the least. I have never been one to use their banter/opinions for any more than a starting point for questions that need to be answered by direct contact. Scopes happen to be a very interesting subject and we all have out opinions on what we like. I find the high end scopes to be more of what I enjoy using. Must say I have plenty of low cost scopes and ones in just about all categories. Nice thing about living here is we all have choices and learn to live with what we can afford and share our information with others of like mind. Whatta Hobby!

The Valdada would be a great pick in the under 2K range. I should have said "would have been"; that model has been discontinued :(
The scope that One Ten is talking about is the IOR Valdada Recon 4-28x50. IOR still makes that scope, and it retails for around $3200. I've owned one for years.
The Valdada Recon G2 and G2 Mini scopes are not from IOR, they were created by Val (Valdada) and produced by LOW in Japan. I've known Val for many years, his office was about 4 miles from my house. I bought my Recon G2 Mini 4-28x50 from him on the day he retired and was loading up all of his inventory of IOR and Valdada scopes to the guy's that he sold his business to. The G2 Mini retails for $1900.

Unfortunately what the guy typed, in his first post, and what he may have meant were two different models. He has since gone back and edited his post to correct his error.

I am a double dot fan. I have (12) of them. I like the Sightron MOA-2 reticle and the 1/8" dot.
